The general configuration recommendations are pretty much the same whether you have 24 cores or 2. There are a few special cases, but they're unusual. Those recommendations are a good place to start.

Sounds good. With my i7-980X, it's running at about 98% CPU with SMP 10+GPU when my GTX 680 is running core 17, otherwise it sits around 89-91%. I'll leave it on a single SMP 10 slot then.

For a couple of weeks, I switched my A8-3870K APU to SMP 3 and ran SETI@home on the integrated GPU. No issues with that. I've since switched that PC back to SMP 4.

It would be great if Nvidia's drivers didn't consume a whole CPU core/thread when running core 17, but considering that the newest drivers have a major performance regression with some Kepler GPUs, I doubt a fix is coming anytime soon :(.

Sorry, but I left out a word. The original reference says very clearly avoid large prime numbers. "Large" is subject to interpretation, but 1, 2, 3, and 5 are not large. 7 is questionable, and problems increase for 11, 13, 17, etc.

Looking at the server status and the SMP servers accepting WUs.
I added them all up.
There are there was around 260,000 SMP WUs waiting to be folded.
I imagine that does not count the ones next in series when you send in a finished WU.
I would say that's quite a few WUs.

OK I have removed a GTX 660ti that was doing poorly beside my GTX 780ti due to driver issues, now running SMP 6 at 4.3Ghz on my i7 rig and should knock over a few units a day while power remains on here. Really with the heat here 2 GPUs and an SMP was just too much, but this config looking good and actually more productive than running the 660ti crippled by the drivers.
