F@H Web Control Client Freaking Out

Post by William_Pielmeier »

I have a problem with the F@H web control thing where it refreshes every second or so and freaks out. I know that there's a bug report option in the client but it closes the prompt window every time that it refreshes so I can't type anything. I've tried restarting my computer and even uninstalling and reinstalling the client application, but to no avail.

Yeah, I had the same problem. Now I use the program with the --client-type=advanced startup key

I don't see how this would help with the problem with the web control. That would just set the client to request WU's from Advanced.

What it does sound like is that something is interfering with the local network connection used between the FAHClient process running in the background and the web control running in a browser. This could be from browser settings or anti-malware software running on the system.

FAHClient will continue to process WUs if WebControl is closed, so you really don't need it. Whatever you use it for can be done with FAHControl. My first question is whether FAHControl also "Freaks out" ... which would tend to confirm Joe_H's assertion that the problem is related to your security software's settings.

Try this:
1) Temporarily disconnect from the internet. (You don't need security software if your computer is not connected to the internet.)
2) Disable your security software.
Does WebControl work or is it still freaking out.? If it works, investigate the settings of your security software.

My two cents: I use Linux and Chromium as a browser and I have the same problem. It doesn't manifest itself with every WU but now and then it happens. The windows keeps refreshing every second.

Then comes the next WU: no problem at all.

Post more of your log. What you've shown is less that the minimum we like. Then, too, it's good to see a segment showing what it's saying when the problem is happening.

Update: It seems to be the cache or cookies. I cleared them both, now it's good.

OK, it happened again. The window keeps refreshing...

The log you posted looks normal ... The FAHClient service is running and it's folding. As you suggest WebControl is not connecting to the client correctly. Do you have an active firewall program?

It works for me, but we don't have enough information to figure out (yet) why yours isn't working.

Have you tried installing FAHControl?

The problem must be the cookies or the cache and, yes, usually I use FAHControl. Ocasionally I use WebControl to learn what kind of WU I'm crunching and what is its purpose. The links in FAHControl don't work anymore.
