change in IP adress/network segment impact Bonus forecast ?

Post by ChristianVirtual »

Normally I'm folding with Linux but in the last days I added a Windows client folding on a nV 970 under Win 8.1 Pro

The new config file contained my regular donor ID, team and passkey. The first few WU on that system went normal; I could see the bonus points and all went fine. Today I fixed some network setting in OS (change to different DHCP and network segment) to be able to remote control via FAHControl the new Windows client in the same way I do for the other clients.

Now I realised that the Bonus calculation prediction is wrong; I got 9712 (8,6,152) assigned; estimated credit = base credit; even after 25% progress.

Given that I double checked the passkey can it be that the change of the IP-adresss/segment influence the ability of the client to forecast bonus points ?

Could a mod/admin please have a look if I still might have a typo in my passkey ? I hope there is only one active passkey right now for my donor ID (ChristianVirtual).

for your reference the log file:

Everything looks fine : Hi ChristianVirtual (team 33), your WU (P9712 R8 C6 G152) was added to the stats database on 2016-05-07 09:06:33 for 25974.9 points of credit.

Obviously FAHClient needs to be able to communicate with the FAH servers, but the particular IP address that the client uses is unimportant.

You didn't mention moving any of FAH's files, but don't try to do that. When FAH is installed, it is assigned a client ID which is closely tied to the assigned WUs and to the hardware configuration that it takes to run them.

@toTOW, thanks. Glad to hear nothing wrong with my passkey.

@bruce, Nope, didn't moved any files manually, even the config was entered via FAHControl.

Is there any sharing possible on what information goes into the client ID ? like MAC address, memory footprint, CPU signature or device serial numbers ? Since this Windows run as a VM (QEMU/KVM) and I rebooted both host and guest between there might be dynamic changes influencing that client ID and eventually PPD prediction. Since I stil tweak around on the VM setup the PPD is a great first-glance indicator of changes in system performance.

The first time a new FAH installation connects to Stanford, it is assigned an ID. (Stanford calls it a UserID, but it's not related to anything you've entered and it's normally not visible to you.) Each slot adds it's slot number to that UserID giving each slot a unique identifier. The server keeps track of the work that has been assigned to that unique ID.

No, it's not based on MAC address, memory footprint, CPU signature or device serial numbers.
