"FAHCores don't get recompiled with versions that work with older hardware/software."
Thanks Bruce- but don't you mean those that DON'T get compiled with old cores won't work?
Depending on processing requirements,of course.
64bits is a clincher, naturally!
I'm happily folding on Boinc work inc.GPU -but they don't do much medical support work.
Still, Asteroids are also extremely bad for our health ;)

If science needs a new FAHCore, FAH generally will recompile the new FAHCore against old libraries so they can provide continued support for old OSs and old hardware.

Some time back FAH elected to compile Linux cores for 64-bit only and support for 32-bit Linux was officially terminated.

Many projects have a "do not assign to 32-bit" setting in the server, but some projects may still assign to 32-bit Windows. WindowsXP 32-bit is doubly old and probably also permanently broken but I haven't seen an official statement. FAH generally doesn't state that "we're about to finish the last project that can be assigned to {OS/bitness/hardware}" so the ability to run a particular old combination may vanish at any time.
