Only one GPU is folding

Post by Toaster »

Sorry if this is a dumb question but only one of my GPU's seems to be folding.

I have three slots on the control panel screen. The first is ID 00 CPU:6 which, from reading, I assume means it's using 6 of the 8 available threads on the CPU. ID 01 is running as well and it shows as GPU:0:GP104 [GeForce GTX 1080] while slot 02 is GPU:1:GP104 [GeForce GTX 1080] and just continually shows as "ready."

When I check the error log it continually shows "10:48:37:ERROR:WU01:FS02:Failed to start core: OpenCL device matching slot 2 not found."

Any ideas on whats happening and how I might fix it? I've only been folding for a week or so so I'm kinda lost when it comes to fixing issues. Let me know if there is anymore information that might be helpful.

Welcome to foldingforum.org Toaster.

That's not a dumb question at all. (There are no dumb questions here if you genuinely do not know the answer.)

You have encountered a known bug. (One which I experience, too.) In fact, there's a beta version of FAHClient.exe that may be released in the near future and this is one of the remaining problems that still needs to be fixed before it's ready to go. Until that happens you'll need to make manual changes through FAHControl.exe to get the other GPU working after most client restarts (or reboots). Post the first few pages of your log. (See the signature of this post.)

Here is the log file for that GPU. If it's a bug then that's ok. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something I had done wrong setting it up. I had set up F@H on two other systems with multiple GPU's as well (6850k w/ 3x GTX 970's, FX-8350 w/ 2x RX 480's) and they didn't seem to have this issue. That's what made me curious as to what was going on with this particular system.

What no one has mentioned yet is that there is a workaround for the bug. You can manually set the indexes but it's mostly trial and error to find what works.

That seems to have worked! Thank you!

I changed the variables from -1 to 1 to mark it as the second GPU and it started running. My estimated points per day shot up to about 1.58 million and usage for both cards in GPU-z confirms that both are currently folding.

Thank you guys so much for your help. I was flying blind here. The last time I used a DC program was Seti@Home about 17 years ago on my PIII machine. There was no such thing as GPU folding back then and multiple CPU applications for the home were few and far between. A lot has changed since those days. :)

Note the indexes might reorganize themselves after the next reboot, now that the client sees all of the GPUs. You might have to run through this once more. Really annoying. Hoping for a bug fix soon.
