How much data is stored on your Hard Drive?

Post by VoidHuntah »

HI! I was wondering how much data is stored on my hard drive before being deleted and sent to Stanford? If it's under 10 GB I'm fine

Yes, it's much smaller than that. There are some temporary files which are discarded when the Results are prepared (and then that upload package is compressed).
Projects vary in size, but the information about the upload package is included in the log when the data starts to upload.

For example:
06:31:20:WU00:FS02:FahCore returned: FINISHED_UNIT (100 = 0x64)
06:31:20:WU00:FS02:Sending unit results: id:00 state:SEND error:NO_ERROR project:13201 run:* clone:* gen:* core:*
06:31:20:WU00:FS02:Uploading 6.77MiB to 171.67.108.102
06:31:20:WU00:FS02:Connecting to 171.67.108.102:8080

I just checked on my system and it's about 450M right now. I'm folding with 3 GPUs on that system.

Good point, Steve.

I'm currently running 3 slots: 2 GPUs and one CPU. My work directory contains 92 M.

People trying to fold on the ultra cheap often skip the hard drive and boot from a USB stick. And they've been doing that since the sticks were very small by today's standard.

Yes, Boostland, you've discovered a bug but you didn't provide enough information for us to open a ticket for it. It would have filled your drive, but that's a VERY unusual situation that needs to be fixed. Even you reported it as a Huge Log.txt file so it's not a realistic answer to the question being asked.

My log is currently 16K but I rebooted recently.

With 3 slots running for about a week, my log grows to ~250 MB. With only one slot, I'd guess it would take several months before it exceeded 1 GB.

I seem to remember another folding box several years ago with a very large log file I never got to the bottom of it I deleted it and it has not reoccurred on that box since.

I was searching to see if anyone else had a similar issue when I came across this thread I thought I would jokingly post my screenshot hence the :P

But also as a warning that it is possible it could take heaps of space if something does go very wrong.

Any software that writes data to your disk can fill up the disk if something goes very wrong. I only remember one other report of a similar failure in the 10 years I've been on this forum.

I have a box that has been folding since 2014 24/7 on this version and the program folder is 97mb and the programdata folder is 40mb.

The log files get cycled and deleted after a while so I doubt that during normal function that it would grow too much.
Unless it had an issue of course.

My work computer that had the huge log.txt has programdata folder at 36.9mb and has not had an issue since killing the task and restarting.

It has cycled logs going back to 30 aug 16.
Current log is 96kb
