estimated time to completion

Post by FAMAS »

is there any way to figure the amount of time required to complete the current 120000 work units if the current 95 petaflops power is maintained? out of curiosity.

Where did the 120000 WU number come from? If that's the server stat number then I doubt it's correct.
Also, it's just the current number waiting for a client to download or being processed right now. Once processed, the next gen is produced, so another 120000 are made.
If only 120000 WUs existed, they would dry up in about a day

Assume an average GPU has 4 Tflops and takes 5 hours to process a work unit.
95000 Tflops / 4 Tflops = 24000 GPUs.
120000 work units / 24000 GPUs = 5 work units per GPU.
5 work units * 5 hours per work unit = 25 hours.
So it takes 1 day in average until 120000 work units are completed.

The question is actually on relatively meaningless numbers shown on the server status page. The servers with numbers other than zeros under the WU's available, to go and wait columns are mostly inactive. With current versions of the WS code and the reporting scripts, the Server Status page is showing zeros under those column headings for active servers.

The only column connected to WU's that is regularly updated is the WUs Rcv column, it shows the number of WU's received and waiting to be entered into the stats database. The numbers there climb until the reporting scripts collect the logs each hour to be processed and entered into the database.
