Change username / team automatically

Post by foldinghomealone2 »

I'm folding for several teams and use different usernames and passkeys.
Is there a way to change username, passkey and team automatically / with a script?

I'm using FAHClient 7.4.4 and Win10.

Thanks

You do know that you don't have to change your passkey with different usernames and teams?

My information ist that if I create a username, I have to request a passkey.
If I change my username and teamnumber I need to change passkey information in the client as well to get QRB.

However, I still don't understand how I can change user-information automatically / with a script...

Your information is incorrect you will still get QRB and I have confirmed it. However I'm not sure if you still have to finish 10 WUs on a new name/team pair or not.
In fact, here is a link to a page where you can enter your passkey and get the points earned on any and all username/teams you have folded on, on that passkey.

User1 with Passkey1 presumably has completed 10 WU and is receiving bonus points for Team1. If he moves to Team2, nothing changes except the team receiving the credit. The pair (User1+Passkey1) has already been qualified.

User2 can start folding start folding using any Passkey but no bonus will be received until until that specific pair of (user+passkey) has completed 10 WUs. You can qualify as many user names with a single passkey as you want or, conversely, you can qualify as many passkeys with a single user name as you want, but each PAIR must be qualified.

On linux
FAHClient --help
gives what I believe are all the command line commands. I don't see anything there for what you want

OK, when I tried this (remember I'm on Linux)
sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient stop
sudo FAHClient --user=MWseRJKu23TQb8pJiRYMVGLJwEW87q29Az --team=234020

It actually started the client using the specified user and team name (yes that's a user name, not a passkey)
but it didn't recognize any of my GPUs and just started a cpu FS. Maybe that will give you something to work on.

Actually it did show the GPUs but they were all on "Ready" and wouldn't start folding.

Required work on your part:
Take a look at /etc/init.d/FAHClient. It starts FAHClient in a particular directory and runs with the permissions of the daemonn (which runs as a different user). Just starting FAHClient is insufficient.

I am a new user. I have two accounts using the same Team and Passkey. I messed up matching the two user names. How can I correct them so they match?

Going forward, just make certain the two usernames match. However once awarded points stay with the username and team the WU was submitted with, so any points earned in the past will stay with the misspelled username.

When I try to use FAH w/o FUI with command line options then it always aborts the downloaded WU.
I use:
FAHclient --config config.xml

Code: Select all

It starts downloading with all the parameters from config.xml but after download the WU fails and the next WU is downloaded.

When I close the command line window and start advanced control it folds just normally.

For information: Maybe this problem is related to an still existing problem which was addressed a while a go:

When you try to run FAHClient from the command line, is FAHClient already running by being auto started on login? That would cause a conflict with your FAHClient process attempting to open files locked by the existing FAHClient process.

No, when it's running then it gives an error message about same processes...

I tried both after closing of advanced client / FAHcontrol and after new installation. Both with same result of aborted WUs.

When you open the Command window, what is the current directory? Is that where you put config.xml? Why are you trying to start FAHClient.exe when it's already running?

If you install FAH with the default settings, a reboot will restart FAHClient with a current directory (recommended my Microsoft) of %APPDATA%/FAHClient and it will start WebControl. You can close WebControl and start FAHControl if you prefer. Neither is required since the background process FAHClient just keeps processing one active WU per slot unless a Control application requests a change. A preconfigured copy of Config.xml is providedd, but it can be edited using FAHControl. We strongly recommend that you do not use other editors.

When you log on to WIndows, the FAHClient service is started along with a copy of WebControl. An environment variable $APPDATA% is preset to a hidden directory containing your Windows UseName. (Mine is %APPDATA% = C:\users\Bruce\AppData\Roaming, so for me, the default location for all of FAH's files is C:\users\Bruce\AppData\Roaming\FAH\FAHClient.

If you have installed for "anybody" instead of "just for me" the directory will be different.

When you open the Command window, that will NOT be the current directory. To do whatever you're attempting to do, you MUST set the current directory to the actual place where both FAHClient and FAHControl will find all of their files or FAH WILL NOT WORK. When FAH starts at boot time, it sets the directory where its files are stored, including where it finds config.xml... or maybe you want to use the full path name.

If you read the instructions in the signature block of my first post on this page (above) it will explain how to find the fah.log. Once you find that log, near the top you'll see it reports where FAH actually running. I believe that if FAH ALWAYS uses the same Current Directory, it will solve all of your problems. If your system contains multiple copies of fah.log, you'll see the results of not being consistent.

Note: FAH may have attempted to write it's files in locations where the user doesn't have permissions to write (like C:\WINDOWS\system32) and that will cause FAHClient to abort ... or it may force you to run with Admin privileges. Both are unnecessary if you're willing to use FAH's defaults.

In Linux and in MacOS-X FAHClient is designed to run as a service, not as a user application. FAHClient for Windows follows that same pattern as closely as Microsoft will allow. The FAHControl software is designe to run as a user application. During FAH's installation, Windows shortcuts are provided for all of the things you're expected to need. If you choose not to use them or you choose to modify how FAH runs, you're on your own.

There is no such thing as "advanced client" You're thinking of the Advanced Control program AKA FAHControl.

FAHClient.exe is run as a background service. It should be started automatically at boot time and only one copy can run, so attempting to start FAHClient.exe is always a mistake, especially if your not very careful of the current working directory and you never try to run more than one copy.

Either FAHControl.exe or WebControl is designed to be used by you to manage what FAHClient is doing ... downloading WU, invoking a FAHCore_xx, and uploading results... plus responding to requests from FAHControl.
