No WUs available for this configuration

Post by Rex2018 »

I've just started folding on my old but trusty gaming PC. CPU (i5 750) is happily folding but I'm having GPU issues. I get the following error messages in the log:

Code: Select all

17:54:11:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 65.254.110.245:8080
17:54:11:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245:8080': No WUs available for this configuration
17:54:11:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 18.218.241.186:80
17:54:12:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '18.218.241.186:80': No WUs available for this configuration
17:54:12:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment
If it helps, it's an ATI Radeon 5850 with updated drivers. Could it be that this GPU is no longer supported or too underpowered to contribute?

Welcome to the folding support forum.

The 5850 is still on the supported list, but work that can be assigned to it may have run out or be in short supply. It is at about the minimum level for folding GPU assignments that have been out in the last year or two.

The newest GPU core does not process well on the TeraScale architecture used on the 5850, it works better on GCN based cards that AMD started selling in the HD 7000 series. So the managers of the Work Servers may have limited assignments to Terascale based cards due to that. The older GPU folding core worked okay on these cards, but looking at the available assignments projects using it appear to have finished.

Thanks for the quick reply, Joe. That makes perfect sense. Yet another reason to finally consider upgrading!

The critical issue is support for Double Precision. The HD7000 is a mixed bag.
Radeon HD 7350 through HD 7670 are TeraScale
Radeon HD 7730 through HD 7990 are GCN

It's a mixed bag in the later Radeon series as well, some low end cards still are based on TeraScale chips. If you stick to the mid-range or higher model AMD cards they will be based on GCN and have double precision enabled.

If you are going to upgrade anyway, I'd suggest Nvidia cards.
