Twin GPU's

Post by ChrisS »

My HP Z800 workstation was quite happily using my single GTX960 card, but when I installed another GTX970 card, only the GTX970 is being used. The GTX960 is idle. How do I get both cards to be used?

I have a Dell Precision with twin cards that happily uses both.

If Windows or Linux sees both GPUs then also FAH can be set to use it. Reinstall FAH to get second GPU recognized or manually add a second GPU slot in FAHControl.

Ok thanks. I'll reinstall FAH first, then if that doesn't work I might need some help to manually ad a second GPU slot.

The sequence should be uninstall the F@h client including data, then reinstall. Just reinstalling without removing the data leaves behind the configuration files that will be read by the client. You should also install the drivers after installing the second card so your system properly recognizes it.

Seems like a lot of extra work. I never reinstall to change my GPU lineup. I just change/add slots in configure/slots. I do have to manually set gpu indexes and opencl indexes. Starting with 0 for the first gpu ind incrementing 1 for each additional gpu. Leaving it as the default -1 never works for me.

You need to check the gpu circle. If you don't it defaults to cpu.

FAH will not let me add a second GPU slot. if I change -1 to 1 or 2 all I get is -1 cpu NOT 1 GPU.
I'llll try re-installing drivers and client.

Are you running Windows or Linux or MacOS-X?

Have you downloaded the drivers from the website owned by the GPU's chip manufacturer (Presumably you're running Windows, so in your case, that would be nvidia.com)?

The default drivers provided by both Microsoft and Linux don't always include support the features required by FAH.

Ok, solved it. I didn't reinstall the Nvidia drivers after fitting the second card. It all works fine now.

Many thanks to all who made suggestions.
