GPUs: 0

Post by swillden »

I have a ridiculously powerful machine (needed for work, which involves compiling a very large codebase) and cheap electricity, at least part of each day, so I decided I may as well contribute a little. But, fahclient doesn't think I have a GPU. I have a Quadro M2000, with the nVidia drivers and libOpenCL installed on a Debian-based distro. Oddly, nvidia-libopencl1 didn't put libOpenCL.so in /usr/lib, which caused fahclient not to be able to find it. I symlinked it in place and now I see that fahclient sees the library, but still thinks I have no GPU.

Any ideas? Since my GPU is running my displays, do I need to install a second GPU for use by FAH?

Here's a log:

Welcome to the folding support forum.

Since the folding client was installed with the OpenCL libraries not being seen, it set the value for gpu to false:

Code: Select all

13:48:08:
13:48:08:  <!-- Folding Slot Configuration -->
13:48:08:  <gpu v='false'/>
13:48:08:
Change that to true in FAHControl and save it. Then restart the FAHClient process that runs in the background. If all of the OpenCL libraries are in place and the nVidia driver installed, then the GPU should be seen and be configurable for folding.

To answer your other question, no you do not need to install a second GPU for use by FAH. Depending on what you are displaying through the GPU you might experience some lag with folding running, the M2000 appears to be equivalent to the GTX 950. If that is the case you may want to have the GPU slot set to fold when idle.
