Mac OS X Client: local Connecting inactive

Post by Ibringapples »

Hello,

That's my problem:

I ran foldingf@home client ver: 7.5.5 without issues until I suddenly rebooted my Mac. After that i have "Client: local Connecting inactive" and there is not a way to recover to start do fold.

I uninstalled and deleted from Application Support "FAHControl.db" before reinstall.

No way to fix it.

Does anyone can help me? :)

Many thanks in advance.

No reason to delete that file, if any file would need deleting it would be the config.xml file in that folder.

First thing to check, is FAHClient shown as running using Activity Monitor? You will have to check for All processes, it defaults to just your own.

Second, if the FAHClient process is running and FAHControl will not connect, post the first couple hundred lines of the log.txt file from /Library/Application Support/FAHClient/ location. It will open up in TextEdit.

Finally, worst case is that you run the Uninstall from the Folding@home folder in Applications, move the FAHClient folder from /Library/Application Support/ to the Trash, and reinstall the client.

The process of FAHclient is:

I cannot find log.txt file from /Library/Application Support/FAHClient/ location

Maybe I have to try the 3rd option...

THanks you very much :)

The sample you have posted is for FAHControl, that is the GUI advanced control to connect to FAHClient to monitor and set up the folding process. It provides more options than the simple Web Control. So is FAHClient showing a process running in Activity Monitor? Here is the beginning of a sample from my system:

Code: Select all

Analysis of sampling FAHClient (pid 97223) every 1 millisecond
Process: FAHClient [97223]
Path: /usr/local/bin/FAHClient
Load Address: 0x100f9c000
Identifier: FAHClient
Version: ???
Code Type: X86-64
Parent Process: launchd [1]

Date/Time: 2020-04-11 10:25:00.751 -0400
Launch Time: 2020-04-10 12:13:46.652 -0400
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.13.6 (17G12034)
Report Version: 7
Analysis Tool: /usr/bin/sample

Physical footprint: 28.2M
Physical footprint (peak): 90.2M
If that is not running, do you have security settings for not allowing downloaded software to run? If you have the OS X firewall active, try turning that off.

Hello,

I tried several times to install and uninstall the program.

It was running before, so I don't thing must be security settings are allowing downloaded software or at least FAHclient. About the OS X firewall must be the one that comes with the initial system. Maybe is it?

I'm really lost with this issue. :(

Thank you very much. :)

With Mojave or Catalina you have to override the Gatekeeper settings to allow the install. This requires use of an admin account password. Additional settings may need to be overridden if there is additional anti-malware or firewall software running.

Hello.

The FAHclient was running without problems before. The Gatekeeper allowed the installation. Anytime I try to remove it, when I install one more time, the config persist and I don't know where to delete all and purge it.

I hope you can help me.

Thank you very much.

Delete everything in /Library/Application Support/FAHCLient/ and that should delete all configuration related files. The Uninstall program should remove everything else related to the F@h client.
