Graphics card power cables to PSU

Hello

I have a new (to me) GTX 1070. It came with this Y power cable: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zNDQJ0 ... sp=sharing

The black end goes into the graphics card, and the two whites are female, 6-pin. My PSU has 3 modular 6-pin PCI-E ports that match the white ends.

I have ordered two PCI-E 6-pin male/male cables. I plan to use them to connect the white ends of that Y cable to two of those ports on my PSU. Will that work, or will it overpower the graphics card? Should I instead get a corresponding Y cable to go from one port of the PSU and splits into two connectors for the pictured Y cable above?

thanks

You will not over power the card. (you may draw too much power from your PSU, but generally, it would not have 3 power connectors if it could not supply them with power)

I don't know how the Y cable is wired or if its wiring is compatible with your PSU ports. It would be extremely unfortunate to use a $10 cable to fry the PSU or graphics card. There's too much money on the line to risk it, it my view. Second, PSUs are usually set up to run a single line, known as a rail, from one of the PSU ports to the graphics card. Sometimes the PSU can even tell you which port to use. It's often a really good idea to use the cables and wiring instructions that come with the PSU.

Hi, your power supply likely came with extra cables. You will likely find one that has an eight-pin connector, it may be split as six-pin and two-pin. you plug the two-pin part in first then the six-pin part. The six-pin locks the two-pin in place so it can't come out. That is what I am using on my RTX 2080, which works just fine.

I did order a cable from Aliexpress that claims to be for my brand and model of PSU. It's 6pin on one end and 6+2 on the other. I'll plug the 6 end into one of the 6-hole -modular ports of the PSU, and the 6+2 into the card, and ignore the Y-cable.
