Might it be because it tries to run GPU client as a service? (https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... ticket/594)

EDIT: I am not sure it applies to linux too

First: make sure you can run V6 GPU in linux.
Then and only then, try it with V7
In the beginning, the Universe was created. This made a lot of people angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad move.

service install could have something to do with it. Not because it's a service but because it is run under another user which might not have access to the correct resources (video group)

The problem is that I'm not much of an expert. I can understand most problems when I have the ability to dig around and google. So for the moment I can only suggest things to try.

First suggestion:
Stop or uninstall the folding client.
Download the tar.bz2 package instead of the rpm/deb and unpack (I've just put it in my /home/$user) and run it with the user that could also run V6 gpu client.
Probably a good thing to keep your config.xml and put it in the unpacked V7 directory.

Only run a GPU slot and put the required settings as global, not slot specific.

FAHControl can be a ***** with the x86-64 tar.bz2 packages so I hope your fine without it.
I can explain how to get that working later if you want...

With version 7.1.24, my problem changed.

I have the v6 Gpu3 client up and running with a fermi card succesfully since a couple of days, but the v7 just doesn't work. It doesn't even download the core.

Did anyone try running the win client in wine? Just wondering if from a high level it works in wine.

I tried getting the GPU client to run as well, but I'm having the same FILE_IO_ERROR problem as others are having. I've made sure the permissions for the work directory are set correctly, and even tried running FahCore_11 as root, but it didn't work. As suggested above, I tried using the tarball release, which gives the exact same error:
Code: Select all

Has anyone had success since the last post? Also, is this topic too old to post in, should I have just started a new thread (sorry if I'm necrobumping).

I've made sure the permissions for the work directory are set correctly, and even tried running FahCore_11 as root, but it didn't work. As suggested above, I tried using the tarball release, which gives the exact same error:

The Linux/Wine/CUDA wrappers:
Code: Select all
wget http://www.linuxfah.info/wrapper-3.0/cudart/cudart.dll.so
wget http://www.linuxfah.info/wrapper-3.0/cufft/cufft.dll.so
were written for v6, and so do not work with v7. Perhaps you could convince the original developers and testers to port their work over to v7, but unless/until that happens, V7 Linux GPU with Wine is not going to work.

I currently have ten (10) v6.41r2 Linux/Wine/GPU3 systems folding, which you can see here, and the Linux/Wine/GPU3 folding works with the latest Kepler GPUs, as described here.

So it's not an issue of just getting v7 to work, it's creating entirely new wrappers? OK, I was just wondering because it would be better to be able to control my computers from FAHControl on my laptop, rather than having to SSH in just to check on progress.

On a related note, I DID get this v6 client to work, but now randomly, after a day and a reboot, it is no longer working, it just exits with UNSTABLE_MACHINE (as well as giving suspicious "Warning: Ignoring unknown arg" and "Error setting CUDA device invalid argument" errors).

The folks who support the wrappers for the V6 client would probably be willing to consider/discuss both of your requests, but you'd probably have to post here to get their attention: viewforum.php?f=54
