New official V7 installation/configuration guides

Postby 7im » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:17 am

With the release of the V7 client, we continue the traditional publishing of Installation Guides, and hosting a feedback topic where suggestions and improvements for the Guides are posted.

The Guides main page has been updated, and is located here http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Guide.

The Guides page for installing V7 on Windows is here https://folding.stanford.edu/home/guide/windows-install-guide/.

The Guides page for installing V7 on Linux is here https://folding.stanford.edu/home/guide/linux-install-guide/.

The guide for installing V7 on OS-X is here https://folding.stanford.edu/home/guide/osx-install-guide/.

Previous guides for the v6 Windows CPU, SMP, and GPU clients, Linux unified client, Macintosh client, and PS3 client will continue to be available.

Regards,

Don't use apt-get install -f to force installation of the package. If you want to install despite dependency issues, use dpkg --force-depends, but this far from guarantees a working FAHClient after package installation.

Don't build using openssl 1.0.0 to support a wider range of Linux distribution releases so you don't have to force installation because of its missing dependency.

openssl 1.0.0 and the python version are catch-22s. Build with older OS for older openssl version, but get bitten by older Python version as well. Or vice versa. I don't envy Joe trying to build a single working package.

Thanks for the tip on dpkg. I was looking for that "rpm -nodeps" equivalent...
