Is it possible to pause one FAHSlot but not the other? This morning I was working with an application in which I typically see lag if the GPU client is running. In v6 I just paused the GPU client, and the separate SMP client backs off nicely, so no worries there. I just reviewed the documentation, and searched around but I didn't see anything that didn't say "pause all slots". While pausing all slots is an excellent feature to have, I just want to pause one slot, the GPU one. Although its not entirely obvious which one is of which type, I figured it out in the end, but couldn't pause just that one. If this is possible, please point me to the documentation where it explains how to do this. I wish I could right click on a slot and hit pause or something. Thanks. Sorry I'm asking so many questions here, I'm just completely new to this software! :)

You can right-click on the slot under Folding Slots (not Work Queue) in Status view and choose pause.

Upgraded from 1.33 to 1.38 in the middle of a work unit and had no problems. Seems to be running fine. And I do like the new Wimp display.

I found a log for project 6801, which has a relatively large results file (about 2.5MB) for a better example.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing ticket #409 (https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... ticket/409) taken care of. So far FAHViewer has been rather anticlimatic for me, despite .tpr files in the slot work directory, but it's going to be really great when it works all the time! But as bruce said in ticket #409, you have a 1000 things to do, and so far the things you have marked top priority I'm it complete agreement with. But since you wanted us to let you know, I just thought I'd note it.

V7 finally looks like the kind of F@h software you can show to people and say "Look! This is Folding@home! Look how intuitive those buttons are, and see how I can pause it if I want to play a game or something. And here's the protein I'm working on in action! And then I just click this button, and there it goes hidden and I don't have to mess with it anymore. Pretty straightforward and easy."

Very good documentation, thank you.

However, I do not consider that to be a problem. That is a change in behavior, and I assume it is by design. In the past, people have posted complaints about the fah upload connection saturating all their bandwidth, causing their Torrent or YouTube video to crawl to a halt for a few minutes.

Maybe a feature request is in order... an expert level check box to use all available bandwidth, or not. ;)

It should be pretty simple to look at how the V6 code handles the uploads. Is it as simple as just double-buffering or it it a matter of sending larger or several blocks without waiting for at ACK every time?

Strange, I see a huge improvement in uploads with the new v7 client. Used to be capped at 30KiB/s of ~100KiB/s with v7, 1Mbit/s nominal upload speed. I have a different ISP nowadays, though, 2Mbit/s nominal upload speed == ~200KiB/s. Anyway, even the old ISP uploaded everything else just fine, including FAH v6. Just uploaded a couple of WUs:

To point out a probable trend, bigger uploads would probably get closer to the peak rate. EDIT: upload to some www.speedtest.net/ server in Palo Alto was only 0.61Mbit/s, so Stanford is actually doing great in comparison. Pings were typical for both cases, some 220 - 240 ms.

I for one consider it a fairly big problem. I would rather treat my local congestion with QoS but fah makes it very hard to do so, since it uses port 80 and 8080, making port 80 ambiguous. I understand why they do that, but it would be nice to be able to force the use of a different port for QoS purposes. Other solution would be using IPs for QoS but since fah servers are scattered over so many IP ranges, that just isn't viable.
I see a potential problem with slow upload rates (rather than download rates) when considering very large WUs with QRB, a donor could be losing hundreds if not thousands of points because of the slow upload.

Napoleon's report, however, makes this issue somewhat obscure. For me, the upload rate never ever reaches more than 45 kB/s.

I'll try to grab a P680x WU next, instead of P762x WUs, to see how I'm doing with 171.64.65.64. In the past with ~30KiB/s, that's the server I was dealing with. Going to take a couple of days before I can post any results, though.

I don't know if the Client s/w can help, but some UK systems have a much bigger problem with uploads.

The normal domestic internet connection here is ADSL, where upload bandwidth is much less than the download. So while downloads are not usually a problem, my typical upload speed to Stanford is 6KB/s. This causes large results files, which will need a 2 hour plus transfer time, to time out at the server, and thus lose two days SMP processing time. The only suggestion on the forums so far is to turn off Big units, which is a bit of a shame for a dedicated folding PC.

I suspect it's beyond the Client's ability to solve, but it is frustrating. We're getting a 3-fold (download) speed increase here next week, maybe that will help (but it may need a new ADSL modem...).
