From the second link bollix47 provided, the Catalyst driver needs to be installed first, then followed by installing the AMD APP SDK. That was for an older installer, I would check with AMD's site to see if that is still the required order.

bollix47 has already given a link to a topic where a HD6870 was able to get folding. The error messages on failure before installing the Intel OpenCL SDK are similar to the ones you are seeing with your HD5770.

Curious what that SDK adds that the driver does not. The driver should include/install all the OpenCL files needed.

So am I. The Intel installer does say it is OpenCL 1.1 specifically, something I read about the current AMD download said it had OpenCL 1.2 support. Now I can't find that item to follow up on. Perhaps there is some component from 1.1 that is needed that is not present in the later installer. But at the moment I don't have a system to check up on this.

And why install the Intel OpenCL SDK for Intel GPUs? I'd recommend the AMD SDK for AMD GPUs, if the driver isn't getting the job done...

It's been a while since I installed Catalyst drivers but is it possible(i.e. Does the option exist?) to install them without installing the sdk portion by going to the custom install section and removing the check next to the sdk thinking that it was only necessary for software developers?

I have no idea what the Intel SDK does. On the other hand, someone found that it solved their issue and I have seen no other solution given that has worked with lots of attempts. It is not an uncommon problem.

I say try it and report back.

Just tried it with Cat 12.8. All or nothing.

And I'd rather they try to reinstall the AMD OpenCL package before some voodoo fix from Intel.

Run the OpenCL.msi file, under the folder C:\AMD...\12.8...\Packages\Apps\OpenCL\.

That surprises me a little, but since OpenCL is still being developed, I guess nothing should be surprising. I'd think that AMD/ATI would supply all the code needed with their drivers except whatever Microsoft supples in the OS but I guess not. Intel would supply the code needed to run OpenCL on Intel GPUs or perhaps to run OpenCL on the CPUs. If this works for you, monitor the GPU and confirm it's folding rather than using the CPUs.

According to Khronos.org the Radeon HD 5700 Series conforms to OpenCL_1_1 when running with ATI Stream SDK v2.3 (or greater) and I know many have used it. It has been my experience that the entire SDK isn't needed since portions of it are delivered with the drivers. Nevertheless, you can try installing the SDK and see if anything changes.

Starting from the begining:

It's not an hardware problem. I play BF3 with this card with no problem at all. My PSU it's a 650W Corsair... It would be enough for 3 or 4 Hd5770, lol.
It's not an overheating problem, because the GPU don't even start to fold. I can see this in GPU-Z.

It is not possible to install the Intel SDK. It says that my hardware is incompatible, and it makes sense, since I don't have any Intel hardware in my computer. I installed AMD APP SDK, but the problem remains...

The ATI (AMD) SDK was the one I was talking about, not the Intel one.

Looking at the download page for the AMD APP SDK, the version currently available is 2.7. Is there information available on which version the folding core has been tested with or was developed on?

Yes, I know, but as I said on my post, "I installed AMD APP SDK, but the problem remains..."
As Joe_H said, probably this 2.7 version is useless.

Why do I have such problems? If it is a missing "driver/dll" problem, everyone with an ATI card should have the same problem as I. I don't understand...

PS: I will now uninstall the SDK 2.7 and install the 2.5 version.

PS2: Didn't work. I also installed Catalyst 11.10, but the error is always the same, doesn't matter the version I install. I think I will just stay with the SMP client... GPU client is causing too many problems for me.

My curiosity has gotten the best of me.

I do notice that "darkcrystal33" has an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7300 and an ATI GPU. I suppose when he installed the Intel SDK it allowed him to use his Core2 for OpenCL. I don't know if anybody has actually tried that, but OpenCL is able to use devices other than GPUs. I'm not sure whether FAH's GPU cores differentiate or simply pick the fastest OpenCL device. (Even if it works, there's no advantage to using OpenCL on a device that's supported by the SMP FAHCore.

Did you run driver-cleaner before you installed the AMD drivers? It's possible that your system has some remnants of some incompatible drivers that are interfering with the good stuff included when you install the new drivers.

Currently when I go to the AMD APP SDK site to download from their archive to get version 2.6 I get a 404 - page not found error. Otherwise I would suggest trying that. It looks like AMD has some site maintenance to do, the main download is at 2.7 and provides a link to the archive page for versions 2.0-2.6. But the survey at the archive page before allowing a download asks why you want to go with a version prior to 2.6. So no idea if 2.7 is the problem, or if some other installation issue is causing the GPU folding to fail.
