I would try rebooting, but if that doesn't work, reinstall V7.

"When in doot, reboot," as all the Canadian techies say. Giving that a try.

I am still getting "Unstable Machine."

I opted to have it run as a service on bootup, to start FAHControl automatically on login, and for it to be available for all machines.

Here is the config portion of the log.

Your GPU will not run as a service. That's a Microsoft restriction.

If you want to use both your CPU and GPU or just the GPU then delete the GPU slot, Finish the CPU slot, if any, and uninstall. After which you can reinstall but don't choose service.

As a sort of work around, you can make sure that V7 launches at startup by making sure there's a shortcut to it in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

ahhh so that's it. Well I highly prefer to run as a service but I suppose I can set it otherwise since I hardly ever reboot. I'll have to wait for a juncture when the current WU is done during the time I'm actually on the computer so I waste a minimum amount of work uninstalling and reinstalling.

Thanks.

The service can run SMP or Uniprocessor slots whether anybody is logged on or not and is survives a switch from one user account to another. To run a GPU slot, the user that's logged on to the GPU must be the one who is running FAH.

Just to be clear, it's impossible to run the CPU client as a service while having a GPU client run under a user account at the same time?

That is completely possible, as I do this on one of my machines already but in a slightly different fashion. I have the CPU running as a service with v7 and the GPUs running in the systray with v6.

I'll also add, as no one has mentioned it in this thread, that this restriction is the case from Vista onwards. XP was the last microsoft OS that allowed access to the GPUs from a service. This is true for both v6 and v7 of the client.

I just tried installing the v6.23 GPU2 client (Windows: V6 GPU2 (ATI 2xxx - 5xxx; nVidia) clients
Windows XP/2003/Vista/7 GPU2 System tray client (installer msi)) from http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther and I got that the GPU is either not supported or I need to update the driver. Any suggestions?

Did you update your driver directly from nvidia yet?

Stay with the V7 client, and get the NV driver from NV, not from Windows Update.

It's also possible with V7 but it's significantly more difficult to configure. A V7 GPU slot supports more types of GPUs and more GPU projects but as long as V6 meets your needs (as it does for the NVIDIA G98), that's a good solution.

If you want to run v6 so you can run as a service, you need a v6.41 GPU client or newer. Ignore the ATI or NV designation.

Yes, I updated the drivers directly from NVIDIA. I'll look into my options on Tuesday--hoping to stay away from that computer for three days after a long week.
