Upgrade to 7.3.6 is it worth it

Postby pompeyrodney » Wed Jun 05, 2013 12:50 pm

I have a quad core Xeon X3363 server folding using the 7.1.52 SMP client and was wondering if it is worth me updating the client to 7.3.6, also any tips for maximising the output please?

The newer version has no speed advantage, but it's best to stay current for support reasons. Overclocking can increase output, if able. Adding a high end GPU can increase output. The default client settings are already set for max output. ;)

Except that in 7.3.6 the slider control is not at "Full" by default, so it needs changing for max output.

David is correct. FAH doesn't need tweaks to run at full speed. Just that one slider setting change, added in the last version so that fah was not, by default, as intrusive on PC resources. You can still bury the throttle if you like. ;)

Only need to upgrade v6 if using less than v6.34. V7 installs on 12.x Ubuntu fairly easily, so upgrading there is also a good option.

7,3,6 is free, so there is no cost.

I recommend migrating all of your machines to the same software version. Assuming that your Linux and Windows clients are connected to the same LAN, you can monitor and manage all of them from a single GUI. Depending on your networking knowledge, setting it up can seem a bit complex, but it works very nicely once you've done it.
