Mac OS X 10.7.5 ATI 5770 - Failed assignment

Post by tand »

I just installed an ATI 5770, added a GPU slot and tried to start folding and keep receiving this error in the logs:

Code: Select all

08:36:48:WU00:FS01:Connecting to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80
08:36:49:WU00:FS01:News: Welcome to Folding@Home

08:36:49:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment
gpu-index, opencl-index and cuda-index are all set to -1. I have manually created the GPU slot and have also reinstalled the software and let it automatically add the GPU slot. I've restarted the slot and the client after each change but the error just repeats and the retry time increases with each attempt.

I ran fahclient --lspci and this is the output:

Code: Select all

$ fahclient --lspci

Welcome to the folding@home support forum tand.

Currently GPU folding on a MAC is not supported. Reports have suggested that Apple's OPENCL drivers require updating before anything can change. That's also true for the AMD graphic drivers as far as Linux folding is concerned. An AMD/ATI GPU is currently only able to fold using Windows. The nVidia GPUs can fold on both Windows and Linux.

You can pause your GPU slot and then remove it from your configuration.

There is an Installation Guide for OS X, The Requirements section does list that GPU folding is currently unavailable.

GPU folding does work fine if you boot your system into Windows using Boot Camp. Son does that periodically with his Mac Pro as there is some Windows only games he wants to run and leaves folding going for times he is not actively playing.
