well, my 7970, at it's stock settings of 1000/1450, is failing WU's..... dafaq is going on?

well, now I got a 0x1 bsod, and the client won't start... dafaq is going on? I even re-installed it...

We really need to see the system identification segment of the log and the configuration that follows it. They should be at the top of the log.

well, I can't get that. the FaH client won't even start. I run it, and nothing happens, even after a re-install.
edit: I managed to start it using command prompt.

Try looking in your Data Directory (Start>All Programs>FAHClient>Data Directory) for a file called log.txt. Open it in Wordpad and copy/paste the first 100 lines into a post here.

If log.txt doesn't exist please describe the method and options you used to install folding. Is there no icon in the task bar? Does Task Manager (using the option show all processes) show any cpu usage for any FAHCore* process?

Did you change the location of the Data Directory when you installed or run the installer as Admin?

That line in your log should show a location similar to:

C:/Users/yourusername/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient

Because your data is in Program Files (x86), Windows is not letting FAHClient manipulate the core files needed to run.

well, the installer has to be run as admin. the client installs to program files. my core data should be in appdata.... and it appears to be running, maybe I just had a bad WU on core 17....

You may find there is a bug in the installer. The startup shortcut will be added to the admin account instead of the user account. Let us know if you need help copying that over.

Could you point us to the instructions that stated the above? I've installed folding many times including on windows 8 and have never installed it as admin.

Express Installation – Recommended! (All Users)

If you used the Custom install and tried to install as a service(does require run as admin) remember that GPUs cannot be run that way due to a Windows restriction:
Note: Windows Vista, Windows 7/8, and newer do not support running a GPU FAHClient slot as a service (a Microsoft security limitation).
i.e. If you want to fold on your GPU you cannot install folding as a service.

Note that this is a Microsoft security requirement, not one imposed by Stanford.

no idea then. it's working now. maybe I just hit a snafu in my system. everything is set to stock, so I don't see how I could be getting errors.

Are the temperatures within normal range? By chance, were you running a VRAM intensive program which might have caused lack of VRAM?

Also, your log shows FahCore_16 WUs. If you have the latest AMD Drivers, I would advise you to fold FahCore_17 WUs which are better optimized. To do so, you have to add the following to the GPU Slot, make sure that you open Advanced Control (AKA FAHControl) -> Configure -> Slots Tab -> GPU -> Under the Extra slot Options, enter the following:
Name: client-type
Value: advanced

yeah, my temps were normal, and it probably showed core_16 from after the reset. i wasn't running anything vram intensive, i have to turn off folding on my gpu before gaming, otherwise I frequently get BSODs. I was running core_17 previously, after the core_16 server ran out of WU's
