Time line for Project 9019

Post by Clive »

Hi:

Is there a time frame as to when project 9019 will be nearing completion? Unlike the BONIC projects on the World Community Grid, the projects on Folding@home lack estimated completion dates.

I personally like world community grid a lot because you can see the progress of a project

You can post a suggestion on FAH Reddit if you'd like to see this feature implemented : https://www.reddit.com/r/foldingathome/

Google has announced that they'll be dropping support for NaCl in a upcoming release. At the present time, FAH is not planning on migrating the client to whatever will replace NaCl so P9019 will be ending when the client is no longer supported by Google.

Bruce may be overstating what has been announced by Google. What they actually announced last year was discontinuing pNaCl, the portable framework for running NaCl code. So far I have not seen any announcement for an end to support for NaCl.

pNaCl did allow for compiling code to an intermediate .pexe file that would be translated in Chrome to native machine code for the platform it was running on. The NaCl implementation currently being used by the NaCl client for Chrome uses executables compiled for each hardware platform. In the case of the folding client it was only complied for x86 hardware.
