GTX1080 not working

Post by mrindian1947 »

Hello,
I've been folding for the past year on this computer with a GTX1080 and have been avg 650-750k ppd.
I had to reset my system and reinstall the OS win10
Now the same setup is getting 8,000 ppd and taking 11min per fold.
Something is not right and I can't figure it out.

Guess you need to download and reinstall the nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. You need to post the missing beginning of the logfile.

I've reinstalled the latest nvidia drivers and no luck and went back to drivers from december and still get the same results
As of now it's at 11min / fold and 100k ppd far from where it should be performing.

Thanks for any help

I think your config.xml file describes a system you no longer have.
If you uninstall F@H including removing the Data, it should build a new config.xml from scratch. That sadly forgets your valid info, but more importantly, the info that is wrong.

My Win 10 box has config.xml at C:\Users\JimboPalmer\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient You may be able to print out the old one, delete it, and restart (or reinstall) F@H.

Per the previous comment - new install of FAH with deleting data and still slow performance:

Code: Select all

I too have a 1080 and the TPFs for all projects are under 4 minutes so you definitely have a hardware or setting problem somewhere as opposed to just a Passkey mistype although when you were getting 8000 PPD a wrong Passkey may have had something to do with such a low number.

As for hardware ensure the power connector that goes to the top of the GPU is firmly seated so that it's getting all the power it needs. If you didn't open up the computer during your "reset" then that's probably not applicable.
One of the settings to check would be in the Power under Control Panel ... ensure it's set to High Performance.

If neither of those solve your problem come back and update us on any changes the above might have caused.

This worries me, if you deleted all the data, I am not sure how it found a checkpoint file. However, even an old checkpoint file should only apply to the current WU, perhaps it will be faster next WU.

Have you checked Task Manager to see if another process is using a lot of CPU resources? The folding process does run at a pretty low priority so if something else is using a lot of CPU that can cause a folding slowdown for your GPU as the CPU is used to 'feed' the GPU.

One way to test this is to PAUSE the GPU slot(s) and compare the CPU utilization. If you have K CPU threads, the total CPU utilization should free up 1/K of your CPU utilization (i.e.- it should go down by about 1/K) meaning the suspended FAHCore had at least one free thread it could use.
