Problem getting WU's

Post by glennsuys »

HI Everyone ,

Togheter with a good friend we've build a folding machine .
At first we were getting a lot of results but last days i see that the gpu's are not folding all the time as they should.
This info i found in the log file:

System config :
Core i3
4x Nvidia GTX1060TI
Actually this machine got 6 cards as it was a mining rig where cpu was not neccesary
With this cpu config we were not able to use 6 cards as the cpu goes to 100% with only 4 cards and after a while we get bsod ..
with 4 cards it stays stable .

anyone got an idea how we can fix this isue ?
or is it so simple that there are no wu's available ?..

Welcome to the forum glennsuys!

Since you were receiving work units before, that's a good sign your drivers and client are setup correctly. The time between checks for new work increases each time to reduce load on the servers. If a slot gets to an hour between attempts, pause the slot for 30 seconds and resume it to try again. More projects are being added on a regular basis so you should get work soon but all slots might not be busy at the same time.

It sounds like it probably is as simple as no WUs available, but if you post your log (including the top 200 lines or so that include the system config) someone might be able to spot if there is any issues contributing to it (sometimes an auto update of drivers can knock things off true) ... viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036

The retry timer which you may have noticed gets incrementally longer (for server protection reasons) has been adjusted in the latest client 7.6.13 and now has a maximum of 1 hour between retry attempts (rather than the previous 6 hours iirc)

I'll leave the multi GPU specialists to advise on how to optimise your kit as folding and mining work rigs in quite different ways and is alchemy from my perspective as a simple CPU folder :?

make sure the software is updated to 7.6.13 as this will change how often the client "phones home". You could pause the client, wait thirty seconds and restart it. You might get some work.

as for the limitation to 4 cards, the problem/difference between mining and folding is that mining uses almost zero cpu whereas because of the way NVidia has setup its software drivers, folding needs one cpu core per card. to get all six cards running you would need a six or even 8-core cpu. doesn't have to be fast.
