GPU's gone

Post by tcummings »

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, finally, and now FAH shows GPU's 0, even though there are two GPU's that worked right up until the upgrade.

Is there a way to force the GPU detection?

We'd really like to see FAH's log (see below) but I'm going to make a guess.

When you allow Windows to install the drivers, they do not reinstall the ones FAH needs. Go to nvidia.com and install the drivers from there, which will include all the necessary components. Then restart FAH.

I installed the latest Nvidia drivers for my GPU's.

Here's the log:

Use FAHControl to manually add a GPU slot.

Configure + Slots + ADD + select the radio button for the GPU slot ....

I tried that. The GPU shows up as -1, but as soon as I hit Save, it goes away.

Old, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 295 and NVIDIA GeForce 210. I know that they are old, but they were folding under Windows 7 just fine. They are both listed in the GPUs.txt file.

You're probably trying to use an unsupported GPU. Does it support OpenCL 1.2 and FP64 calculations?

Would the OpenCL 1.2 and FP64 requirements be different between Windows 7 and Windows 10?

No. They depend on a downloaded file called GPUs.txt.

Neither of these cards have been supported for folding in the last several years. The 210 is Tesla based, the minimum has been Fermi or newer for at least 2-3 years. I forget when the Core_15 projects finished. The NVS 295 is even older.

Were they?, or was the configuration not what it seemed and you were actually doing CPU folding on slots that may have been identified as connected to these GPUs. There are ways to force a configuration to an unsupported GPU, the result is actually working on the CPU, we have seen that here before.

GPUs.txt is both a whitelist and a blacklist for GPUs, if you look at the entries for these cards you will see the 3rd and 4th fields are blank. That indicates unsupported.

If you did not delete the old data files when you upgraded, the client keeps the previous 16 log files in a 'logs' folder at the same location as the current log. You can post one of those and we can look at what the client was doing with these cards.

I'm pulling the logs from the backup that was done right before the upgrade. I did notice that I was running 7.5.1 before, and upgraded to 7.6.13 after I upgraded to Windows 10.
