force a core other than 22

force a core other than 22

Post by mwroggenbuck »

Is there any way to force the use of a GPU core other than 22? Can I select some project other than Virus 19 and get a different core?

I am trying to determine if I have problems with any other core.

The project determines which core is required, so it's out of your control.
All GPU projects for COVID-19 currently require FahCore_22.
You can select a preference other than COVID-19, I think there's still some FahCore_21 out there that hand out WUs, but changing preference doesn't guarantee you'll get any of those.

Core_22 is a GPU core. Some older GPU projects use Core_21, but with the priority on COVID-19, they are currently rare. (all GPU COVID-19 projects are Core_22)

Core_a7 is the CPU core.

To the best of my knowledge no you can't force/choose Projects/WUs/Core … You can state a preference for the type of Projects but that is about it … What problems do you think you are having with Core22? - and are these with 0.0.10 or a previous version? … I ask as there are some current Projects that are very variable in a number of ways - but issues are not necessarily due to the core but the experimental type of projects - so it may not be your kit/setup having issues and just be the impact some of the projects are having at the moment.

I am occasionally picking up Core21s as at least one of the research groups is using that still on fairly new projects.

My issues are documented elsewhere viewtopic.php?f=81&t=35482

I am just trying to narrow things down. As stated in the above link, it is frustrating to see a 5 hour run say it is finished, but not able to upload because of an unknown error.

Nobody else seems to have this problem, so I am doing as much investigation as I can. I am running world community grid boinc virus besides this (I give CPU to WCG and GPU to FAH). I have an i7 with 4 cores, 8 threads. I only allocate 4 cores to WCG, and I always have some idle CPU cycles, so I don't think this is the issue. I could stop WCG for a while and see if that helps.

I did switch my project preference to cancer in hopes of getting a core 21 project, but I received a virus 19 project. I know what project you select you may not get. I guess I just confirmed that.

I also tried bumping up the priority of my FAH via the advanced controls. It did not help.

I am open to any suggestions.

Probably P169xx. That was the last time I got a FAHCore_21. I think there is at least one other project still running core_21.

So looks like leaving your preference to cancer probably optimises your chances of getting a Core21 ... I won't try to help re the problems since they are being covered in the other thread.
