2 x R9 390 (old hardware) and optimize WU size?

2 x R9 390 (old hardware) and optimize WU size?

Post by Quad2000 »

Hello together,

I have a extra folding PC with 2 x R9 390. As I know I can define the preferred WU size (max-packet-size = big ) in the client.
What options do I have? Also mid packet size possible?
Should I define something relating to my GPU´s? Only mid size?

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards Sascha

max-packet-size is a relic of dial up modems. I would not count on any researchers still configuring WUs for dial up.

max-packet-size has never been about WU complexity or power.

That said, you are free to play with it.

You look good to fold with 2 R9 390s if your PSU is large enough.

in addition to words (like 'big') max-packet-size accepts numbers but as Jimbo says, it's a relic and the project owners don't set a value. A few years ago, projects got big enough that they bypassed the default setting so a couple of projects were not being assigned often enough. At that time, the default settings was simply encreased.to avoid conflicts.

You might want to write an enhancement request in https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-issues asking for the setting to be reactivated and a policy be set to accomplish what you're asking for.
