New A3 Core not downloading

Postby murraydr44 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 4:04 pm

I installed Version 7 client on 6 PC's last Saturday. Things were fine until yesterday, when 1 of them mentioned a missing new A3 core. This morning, 4/6 PC's now reporting the same thing.
FAHClient output:

Please post the ***SYSTEM*** section show at the top of your log, plus the context around one or two of those messages.

How may slots are you running on each client?

Slot 0 only. Here is my config.xml file for all 6 PCs:

<config>
<!-- Network -->
<proxy v=':8080'/>

<!-- Remote Command Server -->
<command-allow v='127.0.0.1 192.168.35.0/24'/>
<command-allow-no-pass v='127.0.0.1 192.168.35.27'/>

<!-- User Information -->
<passkey v='***(censored)***'/>
<team v='60'/>
<user v='murraydr44'/>

<!-- Folding Slots -->
<slot id='0' type='SMP'>
<cpus v='4'/>
</slot>
</config>

It was copied to the Windows XP PC because FAHControl wouldn't start up on Windows XP.
The only Version 7 client still running today is on the Windows XP PC. The other PCs are returning to the Linux 6.34 client for a while.
I use the HFM-NET folding monitor to monitor the PC's on the LAN (http://code.google.com/p/hfm-net/).

You didn't post the ***SYSTEM*** section from the log. In the Windows START ... "all programs" you'll find a shortcut to "data directory" Inside of that, you'll find log.txt. We need to see the first page or so. (You can stop before posting the config section.)

I've never seen this sort of problem before, but we'll get to the bottom of it.

Can you open those addresses in your browser?
http://www.stanford.edu:80:
http://www.stanford.edu/~pande/Win32/AMD64/Core_a3.fah

The first one should give you the homepage for Stanford University and the second should try to download something called Core_a3.fah (which you can cancel).

I think you need to set your proxy to:
Code: Select all
<proxy v='127.0.0.1:8080'/>

That is if you intend to use a proxy on your local machine. Otherwise, remove the proxy line altogether or set the correct IP address.

Forget what I said earlier about <proxy v='127.0.0.1:8080'/>.

Can you manually download http://www.stanford.edu/~pande/Win32/AMD64/Core_a4.fah using a browser from the same machine?

Yes I can get to all the websites the client is trying to open from the same machine, can download that core manually (although I'm under the impression that the client won't recognize the .fah file without actually downloading it?), have tried with no firewalls/Anti-virus/anything running on the machine, it still can't connect to download the new core.

At least you're getting A3 cores, I'm getting nothing but A4 and the credit I'm getting form them is pathetic

Same as kscott,above, i've 2 machines running SMP with v7 now, but so far they only d/l A4. Is it still true about doing 10 A3 Wu's before bonus credit ?

Yes, but it is 10 bonus eligible WU's to qualify for bonus credit. Currently that is WU's from A3 and A4 projects.

I'm seeing this as well, but I can visit the URLs above through the browser, and download the .fah file.

This has been working fine, up until this week sometime.

We worked on a similar problem here Subject: requested address is not valid in its context and it turned out to be his security software. Try disabling it and let us know what happened. We'd like details on what security software you're running . . . and if possible, what kind of authorization you need to give FAHClient so it can get through the firewall portion of that software.

There's no security software on this machine, apart from the built in Windows firewall (although it's behind a router firewall that hasn't changed). Disabling that and restarting FAHControl still gives the same error.

The only windows update was Definition updates for windows defender - KB915597 (Definitions 1.125.1137.0 and 1.125.886.0)
