not enough time for computing a 0x22 WU

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

not enough time for computing a 0x22 WU

Post by promeneur »

OpenSUSE 15.3
computing mode: "full", when i am working
GPU 1: Bus:1 Slot:0 Func:0 NVIDIA:3 GK208B [GeForce GT 730] 692.7
CUDA Device 0: Platform:0 Device:0 Bus:1 Slot:0 Compute:3.5 Driver:11.4

3 WU (0x22) :
- 3 days for computing for each one
- estimate time for each one 3,5 Days
=> each WU computing with "Past final deadline <date>, dumping"

Support for the Kepler based NVidia cards by FAH is ending, as NVidia's latest drivers (which are required for full support of OpenMM_22 core 18) are starting the process for end-of-useful-life support for them. Therefore, upgrading to a card that supports the Pascal, Turing, or Ampere architectures should be considered (along with an appropriately sized Corsair or EVGA PSU for the card you select).

It's a pity because that was a way to recycle an old nvidia adapter.

I am satisfied with IGPU then I don't buy anymore DGPU.

The GT 730 has always been close to the bare minimum GPU needed to process any WU. The Kepler versions of the card have been a bit better than the Fermi ones. It may be time to reclassify the cards species entries, that will change what is assigned to them. However without any information on what WUs from which projects are failing to complete on time, that is hard to tell as it may just be assignment settings that need to be adjusted on the servers.

I really would check your logs to be sure you are using CUDA, not OpenCL to process WUs. As weak as that card is, the additional 30% in speed may be the difference in go and no go.

If you need help post the first 200 lines here.

This is CUDA, not opencl.

GeForce GT 730

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/g ... -730.c1988

This GPU should still fold, it meets the two prerequisites 64 bit floating point math and OpenCL 1.2 or higher.
Nvidia has dropped driver support recntly, so long term, be thinking of moving on. If you need a half height card, the GTX 1650 is as new as is made. If it needs to be both half height and single slot, GT 1030 is about twice as fast)

Your driver is the latest supported driver.

Iirc there are at least two if not three versions of gt730 one of which will struggle ... yup https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tomsha ... 27087.html

This one will struggle https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/g ... -730.c2590

The wikipedia listing of nVidia GPUs shows 3 variants, and that may not be complete. Two used two different Kepler chips, one used a Fermi chip. The Kepler based cards have 384 shaders, the Fermi 96. Two of them were rebranded GT 630 cards, hardware that was the same as cards sold 1 and 2 years prior to the introduction as GT 730s.

It's the Kepler variant ... but it doesn't make it a fast GPU ...
