9401 fails on GM107 but not GK106 {Hopefully fixed}

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Alright, this is the beginning of the log, the 4.5 days worth of p8018's in between push my post over the character limit. Bollix47 noticed this in the previous log, the gpu is reported as GM107(Maxwell).

OK. The data that I had saying it was not a Maxwell was wrong. Your log does show a Maxwell GPU and it also shows the successful download of a Core_15 assignment which is what is supposed to happen. Next time you get a Core_17 assignment on that machine, let us know.

I restarted the computer so it would have a shorter log this time and right away it received a Core_17 assignment.

OK. I'll report it up-the-line.

It's strange that you'd get a new WU rather than resuming work on the active WU.

There was no existing work unit, my last 6-7 units were all failed p9401s. That Core_15 work unit download shown in the beginning of the other log was finished almost 5 days ago. It was just the beginning of the prior log I had posted because you requested it.

You must mean failed p9401s. When was that?

Yesterday in this thread, you replied to it asking for the first couple pages of the log.

What's your source? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nv ... sing_units lists only one GTX 750 Ti

Are you thinking of the GT 750M? That is GK107, not GK106. The laptop chips are usually just down-clocked versions of the previous gen discrete cards, e.g. GTX 650 becomes GT 750M.

Wikipedia is not necessarily a reliable source -- and neither was the reference given when I asked. where they found it in the first place. If you have a 10de:11c7, it's a Kepler. If you have a 0x10de:0x1380 it's a Maxwell. Since that's what is published in GPUs.txt, it's the authority for FAH's assignments. Whether NV puts the advertised name on the outside isn't important. It's the internal designation that matters.

Some google turned up this link. http://www.techpowerup.com/190588/nvidi ... ailed.html Looks like a 750 ti Kepler was in development, don't know if it ever made it to production, in the US or elsewhere.

ok, this is getting to clearly be a serious problem since our changes aren't working. We've been internally thinking of a plan. Here's where we are:
1) core17 update: we've come up with a workaround for core17 so it runs on Maxwell. It won't run as fast as it could (due to the driver issue), but it will at least run. It would run at full speed on non-Maxwell. We're pushing to get that new core17 out.

2) AS update: If we can't resolve the AS issues, we're thinking of reverting back to giving Core17 to everyone, including Maxwell GPUs, even before we get Core17 out, since this is a major issue for non-Maxwell donors.

I'm sorry we don't have better news at the moment, but this is where we are right now. We are actively pushing on both the core update and AS update fronts to fix this.

Thanks for posting this. The level of information given is much better than in the past, and I want to say a big thank-you for that. I know how difficult it is to share a not-good story, but it makes me , as a FAH donor, feel much more valued when such information is made available.

Is this fix Windows only? I am just not getting assisgnments in Linux. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, EVGA 750 ti 334.21 drivers.

Core 15 does not run natively in Linux (it is possible to run FAH via WINE, but it's somewhat complicated). If an Nvidia card can't get core 17 work in Linux, then it will get nothing. I haven't been keeping super up-to-date on this thread, but it sounds like they temporarily blacklisted Maxwell cards from getting core 17 work, which would leave Linux machines with no work to do until these fixes are implemented.

Fermi/Kepler on Linux should be assigning Core_17 like it was earlier. Are you saying that has changed?

Mine is still working on a P13000 and will be for 4+ hours so I can't test it yet, myself.

There's never a guarantee that a particular project will be assigned.
