Thank you for posting your log.

1. When you do get it to fold, it won't be able to meet deadlines and may run hot
2. When you do get it to fold, it will only run EOL core 11 WUs. so it will run out of jobs 'soon'
3. The video driver you are using does not support CUDA, you want a newer, but not newer than 327.xx version driver.

This is a laptop, so you want the latest Sony driver, here is the latest Nvida driver, but it may not serve you well

I tried to install the driver, it won't let me, error not found card or something.

Welcome to the F@H Forum treasurechest,

From the log file posted, it seems that you got FahCore_17 WU instead of FahCore_11 WU. Please note that your GPU is a Pre-Fermi one so is not supported by FahCore_17 WUs which explains the errors. However, I will notify the personal to ensure that Pre-Fermi GPUs don't get FahCore_17 WUs.

It seems that only a few Sony laptops are officially supported by Nvidia:
The following Sony VAIO notebooks are included in the Verde notebook program: Sony VAIO F Series with NVIDIA GeForce 310M, GeForce GT 330M, GeForce GT 425M, GeForce GT 520M or GeForce GT 540M. Other Sony VAIO notebooks are not included (please contact Sony for driver support).

Thus, you could ask on the Sony Forum and hopefully, they can provide you with a helpful answer.

I got it from Nvidia. It will give me this error when I run setup installation: There are five columns on left, system check / license agreement / options / install / finish. During system check, error comes out "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. The graphic driver could not find compatible graphic hardware."

Please note that the Server has been verified to function correctly. However, since you don't have the official Nvidia Driver installed, I am not sure if FahCore_11 will function or not. As a simple test, could you please restart F@H (rebooting the system might be easier) and see if you get FahCore_11 WUs or not? Moreover, could you please run GPU-Z (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/) and post a screenshot here of the first tab (do note that you may have to upload the image to a image sharing site http://webtrends.about.com/od/prof4/tp/ ... Photos.htm and post the link here)?

Apparently Sony installs something like specialized microcode which doesn't work with the NVidia drivers. If you restore the Sony drivers, you may be able to run the V6 client which can still be downloaded. With that combination, you should never be assigned work for FahCore_17 although there's no guarantee that you'll get work assigned for FahCore_11.

For Core11 (or Core15) CUDA needs to be installed. Sony drivers may not support this, so it may be a non-starter.

You man be able to install the CUDA Developer package separately from NV but check if there are special requirements to support such an old GPU.

The NVIDIA 9300M GS is an extremely low-performance GPU and it's probably not worth all the trouble. Personally, I'd abandon that quest and fold with the CPU.

Alright, thank you for advise. I shall focus on its CPU only. May I know would it be great folding result with adequate GPU for a desktop? Kindly check this pricelist, under Graphic Cards section, which card would you recommend? The price is in my local Malaysian currency 'Ringgit Malaysia' / MYR.

It depends on these factors:
- Is your OS (Operating System) supported? Windows (32-bit/64-bit) supports AMD and Nvidia GPUs. Linux (64-bit) supports Nvidia GPUs (AMD support is experimental). OSX doesn't support GPU folding yet.
- Is your GPU dedicated to folding or will you be using it for other activities too (gaming, etc)? If you plan to use it for other activities, then get the GPU that best suits your other activities' needs and let folding be the secondary option.
- What is your Budget? Generally, it is recommended to get the best GPU that you can afford.
- If you are buying a dedicated GPU, make sure that your PSU (Power Supply Unit) can handle it. It is highly recommended that you use a branded PSU like Thermaltake, Zalman, etc since an unbranded one may potentially damage your system or make it unstable under load.
- Assuming that it is only for folding, remember that VRAM size isn't a huge factor so 1 GB would be sufficient, no need to spend money on getting a 3 GB version. Also, note that while higher clock speed may boost performance, some factory overclocked GPUs can be unstable with F@H and you would have to manually reduce the frequencies to a stable one by using Afterburner or PrecisionX.
- If you plan to fold 24/7, then you should try to get a GPU which exhausts the heat out the back of the case instead of dumping it inside the case. This ensures that your PC components aren't overheated and temperatures remain acceptable (a well ventilated system goes a long way).

Hi! Would like to thank again for your wonderful support. My reply to your points as follows:-
1) I am interested to build from scratch a desktop dedicated to folding. It will be placed at my office that allows 24/7 computers standby turned on. I am fan of AMD cpu, would like to use that if possible.
2) The GPU will be dedicated to folding.
3) My budget would be less than RM500 for the GPU card. Any recommendation from the list in this pricelist? Its the most popular pc shop here at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. http://images-cdn.lowyat.net/pricelists ... -czone.pdf
4) Noted on branded & quality PSU, will do that.
5) Noted on risk of overclocked GPU, will try avoid.
6) Any diagram desktop casing for simple setup of good ventilation? I was thinking of front fan casing suck air in, blows the hot air from GPU card to the back, rear fan casing sucks out air.

Once again, much welcome forumers suggestions and I thank you for your time. :D
