GTX 760, driver version 337.88

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

GTX 760, driver version 337.88

Post by Illusion1409 »

Trying to get back into folding today after a couple of years away from it, and got myself a new GTX 760 today. I downloaded the new client, and it assigned a slot and I assumed it was working just fine. However, nothing seems to be happening. The log doesn't really say much about progress, and none of the fans in my PC have spun up. My Asus card's GPU Tweak software hasn't registered an increase in activity or heat, even when the client's slider is set to full. I can only assume this is a driver issue. Can someone confirm?

Is the slot set to fold only when idle?

It would be useful for you to post the log using copy and paste, including the config and system portions (Click refresh).

Hello Illusion1409, welcome to the forum.

Please revert back to driver 327.xx. The GTX 760 folds at half speed with any driver newer than that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I got the work unit downloaded and working - turns out I just had to wait. Bearing in mind what you said about my current driver running half as fast as 327.xx, my current estimated PPD for my card is only 1678. Is this because it's the client's first work unit and thus doesn't have a reference of sorts? I've seen reports of around 25K+ PPD on GTX 760 cards, so I'm a little confused about this.

Several possibilities exist for the low PPD. First, it can take the client several percent of progress to give good estimates for ETA and PPD, especially the first time a WU from a specific project is processed. Beyond that it will depend on whether you set a passkey in the client, without one you do not get the Quick Return Bonus (QRB) which can be many times the base value for points. Also it will depend on which projects you process. WU's from the older projects that use Core_15 do not get QRB, ones using Core_17 do.

I suspected that I would need to give it time before I get proper estimates, but it's nice to get some confirmation. I can confirm I'm running Core_17, running Project 13001. Also, as I write this I notice that my PPD estimate is increasing, so this issue seems to be fixed. I'll consider downgrading (upgrading?) my drivers to what 7im suggested, though I'm a gamer too so I need a happy medium.

Thanks to all for the help. Feels good to be folding again.
