RTX 2060 doesn't show up

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

RTX 2060 doesn't show up

Post by gemas09 »

Hi there,

I just installed folding@home on my pc. I have two GPUs, a GTX 670 and a RTX 2060 and I would like to make both of them available. I've been able to add a gpu via FAHcontrol but regardless of the index I use it only adds the GTX 670. How can I set up the other one? I'm running on Ubuntu 18 and this is my nvidia-smi output:

In fah control, go to slots. You should see at least one GPU slot.

Take a look at the configuration of the slot you have by highlighting it and clicking edit.

It probably has opencl-index set to -1. Try changing it to 0.

Now add another gpu slot and change its opencl-index to 1.

Let me know how that goes.

HaloJones' recommendation is a good place to start, but I'm inferring from your nvidia-smi output that the 670 may be installed in the "top" or main PCI slot with the 2060 in the secondary PCI slot. Most motherboards have higher bus speeds on the main PCI slot (like x16) and lower speeds on others (like x4). It's conventional wisdom to install your more powerful card in the higher-speed slot, as this will impact the rate at which information moves to and from your GPU. Low bus speeds can have a small but noticeable impact on FAH performance (and the performance of other GPU-intensive tasks as well).

Some motherboards can offer equal speeds to both slots (like x8), and maybe yours does - in which case, this doesn't matter and you're good to go! Just wanted to make sure that your rig is configured the way that you expect.

Did you restart the client? FAH configures new hardware when it starts (no plug-and-play). Before you do that, do a fresh install of the drivers from Nvidia.com
