Geforce 9600GT Ubuntu never gets job, connection timeout

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Geforce 9600GT Ubuntu never gets job, connection timeout

Post by Citosicarius »

I've been searching through help requests, not sure if this is a drive problem or not .. have done everything I can see or figure out for myself, not sure where to go.
I'm getting repeated 'Failed to connect to 192.0.2.1:80' but the CPU on the same system is folding away no problem

I have the Nvidia 340.107 drivers installed,
Verified with clinfo that I have OpenCL 1.2 and CUDA

Before getting too deep into this problem, is it even worth trying to get the 9600 to fold?

The 9600 GT is too old to fold, all 10 of the entries for 9600 GT in the GPUs.txt file show it as blacklisted.

Says no OpenCL 1.2 and no Double Precision floating point. If it could fold, it could never meet a deadline.

I didn’t notice it blacklisted.. I just searched the GPUs.txt figuring if it was in there, it was good. Since it’s not gonna do anything then I’ll abort this mission.
Thank you for the replies

The list is a whitelist and a blacklist. Any entry that contains no number or a zero in the 3rd and 4th fields is blacklisted. For example:

Code: Select all

0x10de:0x0637:::G94 [GeForce 9600 GT]
1st field is manufacturer number, 2nd is the device ID, 3rd and 4th are used by the servers to determine make and capabilities for assigning WUs.

There's talk about releasing a version of FAHCore_22 that runs on CUDA without OpenCL. Nobody has mentioned a minimum version of CUDA but my guess is it'll be 2.0. (Current is 7.x or better.) Your GPU only supports CUDA 1.1 which i'm pretty confident will still be insufficient. Upgrade your GPU
