Strix 1070 Not boosting and returning bad WU's RMSE ?

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Strix 1070 Not boosting and returning bad WU's RMSE ?

Post by Druidan »

Hello, My Asus Strix 1070 is returning bad work units it is not starting a WU just keeps trying till fail.
All windows updated (10x64) Nvidia driver 461.09
The card is not boosting off idle at the start of a WU like it did when I had a 1060 installed (1060 worked fine 24/7 for months).
If I manually get it's ass off idle by running GPU-Z's little render test window my 1070 starts a WU and finishes it giving credit, All good.
Sadly not being able to leave render test running for long after the start of a WU as coil whine is really loud.
So I just use that to get the card going, once at about 0.10% I can stop render test and the card will carry on.

So problem is I cannot sit at my PC and nanny each WU! So i am turning to the wise on here to see if anything can be done.
The only thing I can see is RMSE is always over threshold. Not that I know what to do about that :-)

MY recent log:-

That is not the most interesting portion of the log. Can you show us the configuration portion in the first 200 lines?

This line is odd, it perhaps your card is doing bad approximation.

Welcome to the F@H Forum Druidan,

Just to confirm, you previously had GTX 1060 on your system and it was working fine. You turned off your system, replaced your GTX 1060 with GTX 1070 and then when attempting to resume folding, it fails. Is this correct?

I would suggest that you download the latest drivers from Nvidia and then do a clean installation. See if that fixes your issue or not.
