12.10 - 12.11 beta drivers - BAD for folding!

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

12.11 beta 7

instals open cl 1.2 amd app 1084.2

Folding now runs.

WU 11293

Not very fast...but does now run.

That's good to know. Hopefully your "now runs" assessment applies to all supported GPUs, not just certain ones.

Once the beta driver version goes "gold," there will be something on which to build an optimized FahCore. It's impossible to predict how much the optimization process will speed things up . . . or when we might see those results . . . but it's one step in the right direction.

XFX 7970 ghz, same result on 2 installs of win 7 64. After upgrading from catalyst 12.10 to 12.11beta my ppd droped from around 8800 to 2200ppd. GPU utilization went from 99% down to 40% as reported by Catalyst control pannel & desktop widget. To verify beyond the average GPU core utilization I use HWiNFo32 which showed the GPU VRM power out in watts drop from nearly 80 watts down to around 40 watts after installing catalyst 12.11.
I followed instructions in link posted by Krusher33 and the problem appears to be resolved. Interesting though, my GPU core is showing 99% usage again but I'm only sitting at 67 watts being used. Just barely preformed the "fix" so I can't tell you if I'm back to where I used to be.

P.S. followed the instructions and used links to get ATImann anc CCleaner but how to google search for the AMD- SDK-V2.8-windows64.exe

haha nevermind had to go back in and overclock my video card (1200/1700 +20% TDP @ 1.3V) and now were back to using 75 watts or so.
Good Luck friends

Atiman just hangs at one point for me so I had to manually delete files and registry entries -.-

I finally managed to install 12.8 but there's no difference for me. I'm still at 25% usage when folding on my 6950. Hopefully AMD fixes this on their next release (which never seems to come :/ I mean it's their November driver that's still in Beta).

I also don't get why it's so hard for them to make a "total uninstall" in their software so it's easy to install an older driver/catalyst. Surely it cannot be that hard.

You probably still have remnants of the other driver. I agree on the complete uninstall....

See PM for a guide for folding on 12.11.

Do you mean 25% of the GPU or 25% of the CPU? ATI GPUs do use one full CPU core in addition to whatever the GPU itself uses.

This may not help all of you, but maybe some with luck :)

But bear in mind that things like playing youtube videos (flash player) pulls GFx core speed down by about the % (not GPU usage) some of the "speeds" you guys are experiencing.

To get speed back up, the browser window that had a video played in it must be closed.

Recently I installed the new 12.11 beta drivers for my HD 7970 and my PPD on the GPU folding has dropped by quite a bit. It is now averaging on 2000 PPD whereas before, it was at around 8000 PPD. I am curious to know if this has happened to anyone else upgrading to these drivers and if so, has anyone by chance have a solution for this issue (short of rolling back drivers)?. My system specs are as follows

CPU: i5 2500k
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: HD 7970
OS: Windows 7
PS: Antec 750w

Thank you for your time.
I have the same problem from 12k down to 4-5k I start thinking that my rigs had gone bad.. Well I will try to uninstall it and try to get back to the "old" driver.. oh I running it under Win8 64bit.
Thanks for the heads up.

ok now I have uninstalled all the catalyst driver and restarted windows 8 then installed the new catalyst 13.1 NOT the beta and now all attempts to do folding with my GPU (Radeon HD 6870) is failing all the time. what is I'm doing wrong now... or is 13.1 not made for folding?
Please advice me what to do!!

Either you didn't get all remnants of the old drivers or the good SDK wasn't installed. If you're not gaming, just install 12.8 and be done with it.
