AMD Radeon HD 6670

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

AMD Radeon HD 6670

Post by Phiniac »

I think i've got it all setup correctly in FAH, but the estimated PPD and estimated TPF are both "unknown" and the progress just sits at 0%. It says its "running" and the project is 11292. Is this card supported? What am I missing?

Please post the beginning of your log file that shows your system configuration up to the beginning of processing of the 11292 WU. Which version of the AMD Catalyst drivers are installed? The most recent folding stable driver package is 12.8, some people have been able to get later versions to fold at a reduced rate.

You may have to reinstall the OpenCL support. The installer/repair package may already be on your system, a path to that is mentioned in this post.

Has the folding moved from 0% yet? Just asking because some WU's take longer to complete a frame. If not, I have searched back and can provide some more links to directions persons have used to get a working install of the Catalyst drivers on their systems.

Step by step directions were posted by a F@H forum member, stickg1. Another forum poster, Krusher33, provided a link to some installation workarounds posted on the Overclock.net forums. Hope this gets you up and folding.

just got done downloading everything. I did a right click/finish on my current WU and i'm waiting for that to complete. But so far, yeah, the gpu WU is still sitting at 0%. I'll get started on the directions you linked to shortly and will post back with the results. I really appreciate your help with this, thank you very much!

what an absolute nightmare. Step one: uninstall catalyst driver=BSOD. Reboot=BSOD. System restore got me back up again. But anytime i tried to uninstall or reinstall catalyst drivers it gave me the dreaded blue screen. I've given up on GPU folding, I'm just happy to be up and running again the way i was before embarking on this mission. I've spent several hours on this and the wife is now pissed. I was just trying to catch up to her stats, which is odd considering i have the better computer. She has a i7 2600 running stock, i got a 3770k set to 4.5ghz. I've folded 100 wu's for 158k and she's folded 37 wu's for 172K points. Not sure why that is, but oh well....

Unfortunately, GPU Folding on AMD cards impacts CPU Folding MUCH more than you would think by the 2-3% CPU utilization indicated by the GPU FAHcore process in Task Manager. I found a while back that I lost more in my SMP productivity than my 4670 gave me back. That, along with driver issues and heat/power considerations drove me out of GPU Folding altogether (even though I now have a 7750 that is allegedly capable of handling the new FAHcores).

Some times it's just the luck of the draw in current projects that determines short-term PPD...
