ATI FirePro V5800 Problems

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

SMP7 works fine. I switch back and forth all the time, mid WU.

My GPU.xt file:
0x1002:0x68a9:::Juniper XT [FirePro 3D V5800]

There is no 1:4 in the GPU.txt file which means its NOT supported. It's a whitelist/blacklist all in one. Compare it with the line above this card in the file:

0x1002:0x68a8:1:4:Broadway [ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6800 Series]

Then there's the answer. Where do I go to suggest support for a graphics card?

Thanks for your help!

The GPUs.txt file on the server does have 1:4:

0x1002:0x68a9:1:4:Juniper XT [FirePro 3D V5800]

Can you compare that to the entry in your GPUs file in your Data Directory?

The date of the server file shows it was updated yesterday: 20-Feb-2013 12:31.

The GPUs.txt file i had in there was from the date of the original post. And it was missing the 1:4. Updated it with the new GPUs.txt file and it's behaving the same. I've rebooted the machine still with no luck.

The entry in my current GPUs.txt file is this
0x1002:0x68a9:1:4:Juniper XT [FirePro 3D V5800]

Thanks for your help!

Going by wikipedia, a real Ati-58xx is OpenCL 1.1 while the so-called Firepro 5800 is only OpenCL 1.0, similar to Ati-4xxx-series of cards.

Since AFAIK FAH demands OpenCL 1.1 or later, it's unlikely the Firepro 5800 will work.

From your current config it appears you have deleted the GPU slot. If you're going to leave it that way for now you could change back to cpu:8 if you want to but that's up to you and the difference in PPD probably isn't huge.

I think I'll leave it at 6. Thanks!

Thanks for your help. Looks like this card won't work.

What I do not understand is why the client reports it as UNSUPPORTED if the 1:4 is in the copy of GPUs.txt that's in your data directory. [Please confirm this.]

Yes, OpenCL 1.0 means it should be removed from the official GPUs.txt so it won't help you, but hardware detection should be considering what is whitelisted, even if it doesn't actually work with the FahCore.

I still have not heard that you deleted the copy of GPUs.txt that is in your FAH data directory
C:/Users/bholbroo/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient[ and restarted the client. The easiest way to make sure your local client is up-to-date is to force the client to download a new copy.

My GPU.txt downloaded yesterday for 7.3.6 says is not supported. Another copy from Jan 30th is the same, missing the 1:4.

Just deleted the GPUs.txt file from that directory. Restarted the client. Same result.

Yes the 1:4 is next to that graphics card. See here from my GPUs.txt file updated yesterday : 0x1002:0x68a9:1:4:Juniper XT [FirePro 3D V5800]

Not necessarily the same. You only observed that you didn't get an assignment. Does it say the GPU is UNSUPPORTED? There's a distinct difference between a GPU not being whitelisted and the severs not having any WUs for that class of device.

Code: Select all

18:23:31: GPUs: 1
18:23:31: GPU 0: UNSUPPORTED: Juniper XT [FirePro 3D V5800]
:?: :?: :?:

Thanks for testing.

You might want to try these drivers if you haven't since the GPUs file was updated.
