AMD FX 8350 Help

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

AMD FX 8350 Help

Post by OutrideGaming »

Hello ladies and gets,

I'm new here to Folding@Home, and I've got a gaming rig I build not long ago and I'd like to use it to help out. Here's my pc specs:

Gaming Rig:
● Talos
Cpu: AMD FX - 8350
CpuFan: Noctua NH-D14
Mobo: ASRock 990 FX Killer
Gpu: MSI R9 Gaming 390
Storage: 120GB SSD - 500GB HDD - 1TB HDD
Psu: Corsair CX 750M
Ram: 2x 8GB G Skill Trident (2133mhz, Cas 9) - 2x 4GB G Skill Sniper (1866mhz, Cas 9)
Monitor: ASUS 248Q 24"
Tower: NZXT Phantom 530

Yes, I gave it a name, yes Talos is as nerdy as nerd gets :p , non the less, I noticed that the CPU tab on the Web Viewer, only shows it as using "CPU 7" eventhough the cpu is an octa core (theoretically numbered from 0-7) so is it using just cpu 7? or all of them and saying it's using 7?

Also, the gpu, AMD Radeon R9 390 (MSI Gaming version) seems to be running fine. My question is, is it a white-listed GPU? The entire 300 series is fairly new, so I was just curious if I had to change anything.

Definitely happy and glad to help out, this, as well as all the other @home projects seem to be really cool. Wish I could help eveveryone!

I decided with Folding@home because I lost my grandfather 13 years ago to cancer, as well as my great grandmother to Alzheimer.

Thanks for the help! :) Sorry If i posted this in the wrong place, I couldn't seem to find the "right" place for this.

P.S. This isn't just using all the GPU power to get Bitcoins or something crazy right? :p

Hello OutrideGaming, welcome to the Folding Support Forum to the FAH project.

The client automatically reserves one CPU core to keep the GPU slot fed with data. The GPU doesn't use a whole core, but it slows one core down enough that it would affect the performance of the other 7 cores.

Nothing against AMD, but most of the 3xx series is a recycling of the 2xx series with faster clocks and prettier colors, and contains all the same White List codes. Nothing to be updated except drivers. FAH updates the Grey List (both White and Black) as needed and usually promptly. Your client will automatically check for a new version of the Grey list about every 30 days.

Folding@home has absolutely no association with any Crypto-currency and has been running for 15 years, well before that latest trend started. This is all science, and all results are shared freely.

(Nevertheless, some crypto-currency sites have decided to reprocess FAH's points and award credits for work done for FAH).

Fold on.
