R9 390 - Bad State detected - low speed, crashes

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

R9 390 - Bad State detected - low speed, crashes

Post by ATGC/U »

Hi! I've tried to make my AMD Radeon R9 390 GPU fold on Lubuntu 64 bit but I get error messages like this all the time whilst running at ~1700 PPD at full settings:

Sometimes the FAHcontrol doesn't display any errors, but the folding speed still remains low. On Windows 7 I've achieved up to 80000 PPD on my GPU with no errors with the drivers that came with the GPU installed. Also:
- I've tried all the available drivers for linux: fglrx, fglrx-updates & xserver-xorg-video-ati
- I've changed gpu to true from configure>expert
- all the depencies supposedly are satisfied
- I've even re-installed my OS and tried also Linux Mint with the same problems repeating

I've got a beast of a machine and I wanna run it 24/7. Thanks in advance.

Did you try to use drivers for Linux from http://support.amd.com/fr-fr/download instead of those provided in the repositories ?

Mod Edit: For those who don't read French, he probably means
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Post the first page of the log showing what FAHClient detects in your system and whatever settings you have in FAH's config.

Until you mentioned it I hadn't, but now that I did I got my GPU to finally fold at ~60000 PPD. Thank you very much! Probably I would have never thought of that and just given up. I couldn't however make the files from AMD's website work on Lubuntu (there were some errors during the installation) so I installed Ubuntu (on which the installation went well).

Unfortunately the logs are gone since soon after toTOW's reply I replaced the previous OS I had.
