Temporary server outages

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Temporary server outages

Postby bruce » Sat Mar 14, 2020 7:05 pm

We've been overwhelmed with the support we're getting from new Donors.

Several servers ran out of WU's overnight. The issue is being addressed as fast as the project's owner can get to it. Unfortunately the server(s) may have to be taken off-line while the new WUs are being generated.

Please bear with us.

That is a known problem with the viewer on Windows, and with viewing Core_22 WU's.

By the way we're now anticipating the possibility of running out of space.

luckily we literally just setup two new 100TB servers
Many of the older server are only 15T

We plan to offload stuff to the cloud as soon as something can be set up but some preliminary analysis will be required before it's useful to other organizations.

For those of you who approach FAH with an "attitude" you might consider being more polite. FAH is not a commercial organization that we all work for. This forum is run by volunteers. The Scientists who do the research and generate the projects are mostly Grad student, working on a Thesis and FAH is an important tool to facilitate their research. (Also some PostDoc, etc) Each lab has one or more key professors, of course, paid by their University. but the rest of us all work for free.

We do appreciate that you have to pay for electricity and you, too, donate your time, (or if you choose to upgrade your computer) but we're all doing the best we can, under the circumstances.

By the way, the EULA says the OWNER of the equipment must approve of your running FAH. For home computers, that's a given, but if you're using your company's computer, you CAN be fired. Be sure you get (written) permission from management.

50k WUs have been added to 140.163.4.231 / plfah1-1.mskcc.org and 60k more are being generated on 140.163.4.241 / plfah2-1.mskcc.org.

Work generation has higher priority than WUs distribution, so you'll see the new work units flowing from these servers as soon as generation is finished.

The servers have WUs to distribute, but you guys are so enthusiastic that they can keep up with the pace ...

Please be patient.
