Any work units for Ryzen vega 8 moble GPU?

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Any work units for Ryzen vega 8 moble GPU?

Greetings,

I'm a new folder and have managed to assemble, what I think, is a solid, purpose-built machine running on Fedora 31. While this machine has been making effective use of the CPU (Ryzen 2200G) and nVidia GPUs (RTX 2060s) to complete WUs, I've noticed that my iGPU has yet to be allocated a WU. Is it just that there really are no WUs slated for this type of GPU or could there perhaps be something amiss?

The two Nvidia cards both show the right Compute and Driver.

The AMD card is not showing that you have OpenCL installed for it

AMD supports Compute 2.0 and the driver is much higher.

I am not a Linux users, but I know you need the AMD proprietary Driver, and you need to install OpenCL separately.

Thanks Jimbo. After investigating your link, also looking at viewtopic.php?f=81&t=33353&p=318278&hil ... ux#p318278, and doing a bit of stracing on the FAHClient, I was able to come up with a clean installation of just the AMD OpenCL drivers (leverages the open amdgpu driver that ships with the Linux kernel) on my Fedora 31 machine.

For anyone else looking to fold with a Fedora Linux machine and an AMD GPU here are the steps:
  1. Download the latest AMD driver from https://www.amd.com/en/support for your card. I happened to go with version 19.50 for RHEL/CentOS 8.1 as this is the closest to match to Fedora 31 that was available.
  2. Untar the archive:

    tar -xvf amdgpu-pro-*-rhel-8.tar.xz
  3. Install, using rpm with --nodeps to force the install without un-needed dependencies, just the bare minimum packages needed:

    rpm -i --nodeps ./amdgpu-pro-*/RPMS/x86_64/opencl-orca-amdgpu-pro-icd*.rpm ./amdgpu-pro-*/RPMS/x86_64/libgl-amdgpu-pro*.rpm ./amdgpu-pro-*/RPMS/x86_64/opencl-amdgpu-pro-icd*.rpm ./amdgpu-pro-*/RPMS/noarch/libgl-amdgpu-pro-appprofiles*.rpm
  4. Restart your machine and you should be in business

Now I just need to figure out how to get this iGPU folding faster. I know it's not as powerful as a dGPU but surely it can complete a WU in way less that 24 hours. Anyone using this same APU have any metrics for comparison?

Another stock 2400G build here.

Most of my work units have been in the 8-12 hour range.

My Points per day hovers in the high 16,000's to the low 17,000's

I'm running the onboard graphics only, no dedicated GPU and not running CPU


I would suspect that with multiple GPU's running that more memory resources are being used to feed the dedicated GPU's. Two faster discreet cards are going to use resources over one on board card that's not a powerhouse.

But I could be wrong.....

My Ryzen 2400g have Vega 11 that takes about 8-10 hours, at a locked 1240 Mhz manually set on my motherboard BIOS settings.
Vega 8 may take 1.55 times longer from less compute units (8 / 11) and slower clock speed (1100 / 1240), if it wasn't limited by memory bandwidth, power limit, temperature limit.

Using Dual channel DDR4? Dual channel using 2 or 4 sticks of equal size DDR4 will double the speed of memory bandwidth, which will speed up Vega integrated graphics. I am using DDR4-3200 3.5v 32 GB (8 GB x4), dual channel, slowed down to 2933 MT/s due to Ryzen 2400g memory controller specs and to avoid random errors or crashes.
