Vega 64 - Nothing but errors

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Vega 64 - Nothing but errors

Post by zombienerd »

I pick up WU's from time to time, but every single one in the past 3 days since I have installed give me the same error every time it downloads one.

My curiosity mainly evolves from this line: 21:23:09:WU00:FS01:0x22:ERROR:exception: There is no registered Platform called "OpenCL"

Am I just getting bad work units, or is that error meaning I have something set up incorrectly?

This is the excerpt from the log:

Welcome to Folding@home!

I am guessing you are on some flavor of Windows. The first 200 lines of the log would have your configuration, so I was not making bad guesses. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

The most likely scenario at this point is that your Drivers are not directly from AMD https://www.amd.com/en/support

Drivers from other sources (most often Microsoft) may lack the OpenCL support F@H needs to fold.

It is also possible you did not use the express installation and so have odd file permission issues, but that is beyond my skill level.

Update - Yes, it is on windows. I meant to add that to the original post, but couldn't edit it once I clicked post because it was awaiting moderation.

Anyway, I got it going. Indeed, my drivers were out of date by one version. Once updating my drivers and rebooting, it would throw BAD_WORK_UNIT every time it got a WU.

Removing the GPU slot, rebooting, re-adding the GPU slot, then rebooting again fixed it.

We can mark this one closed. Hopefully it will help someone else in the future.

And i thank you for the feed back! Sometimes, you never know if your guesses were at all right. In this case they weren't.
