Steam would be using OpenGL, not OpenCL. People have mentioned some utilities such as clinfo, but those I never got into using. To se if the GPU can do basic OpenCL as used by folding, there is FAHBench. It is a benchmark based on the Core_21 code and has a copy of an olde WU to process. If drivers and support installed can run that, it is a start towards getting a GPU to process for F@h.

It seems to me that you never installed ocl-icd-opencl-dev -package.

Just google where you can download it and just double click it in downloaded folder just like in windows. If that is the place you saved it (default).

ocl-icd-opencl-dev is already the newest version (2.2.11-1ubuntu1).

It won't detect my 7950.

To be honest, I'll probably just put Windows 10 on it. I created a bootable usb in linux mint, so that will probably be it.

I wish linux was really ready for everything because I love how fast and responsive linux mint 19.3 is. It's a great OS, just not with AMD GPU's and f@h.

Have you checked from driver manager if there is another driver to install? (You must remove recent first).

I run Mint on all of my CPU/Nvidia folding rigs. Tried to build an AMD GPU rig and quit after two days of fighting it. I think the key is finding an older version of AMD's official drivers that have OpenCL and that will work. Sadly, I'll just have to install Windows for now.
