OLD ATI cards

Post by Nathan_P »

Just a thought. Given that support for all AMD 3xxx and 4xxx gpu's has been withdrawn, should they not now go on the blacklist, someone has just restarted folding using his 4870's but cannot get work - the latest version of the clients still list them as supported.

I believe they are on the blacklist. GPUs.txt is both the whitelist and blacklist, but it's not very apparent. To take an example, here's the 4870 listing:

0x1002:0x9440:::RV770 [Radeon HD 4870]

A whitelisted AMD GPU would have a 1 after the second colon and some number, which I presume indicates OpenCL capability or something along those lines, after the third colon:

0x1002:0x671f:1:4:CAYMAN [Radeon HD 6900 Series]

If it's missing those numbers, it's blacklisted.

If you look through the list, there are a ton of cards that never ran FAH, and they all are blacklisted the same way.

Even the 7.2.9 version running on my iMac that has a 4850 GPU shows the card as unsupported in the log. Not that the message is needed as GPU folding on any card is unsupported under OS X. The card used to show as supported, so one of the updates to the GPUs.txt file made the change. If the card is showing as supported for your friend, updating the GPUs.txt file should fix that.

OK, he didn't specify which version of the client he is using beyond v7. I'll get him to download v7.3 and see how he gets on

V7.2.9 added automatic updating of the GPUs.txt file, done once a month as I recall. Earlier versions of the client needed to be updated manually.
