HD 7970 won't load core_17 WUs

I have CC 7.3.6 installed with a brand new Sapphire HD7970 in a brand new HP Phoenix computer. Everything is up to date.

Setting your client-type to beta or advanced is not a guarantee that you will get a Core_17 WU, only a preference. If there is not one to assign at the time you connect to the servers, then you will get work that is available. In this case you were assigned a WU from Project 11293 that uses Core_16. When it completes you may get another, or get assigned one of the three projects using Core_17.

Also, we do not recommend using the beta flag if you are not a member of the beta testers. Support is only given in the beta forum, posting is limited to members accepted to that sub-forum.

If there are no WU´s ATM using Core17 you will get a Core16-WU which has the same state.

PG does not run open beta's of folding cores or new projects, but does post it publicly so anyone logged into the forum can read the posts. Currently Core_17 and three projects have moved to advanced which is an intermediate status between beta and full assignment to any folder. That might be considered an open beta, but it is a separate status.

PG has done open beta with the folding client itself during the development of the V7 client. That is a separate testing from that for the cores and projects.

I though core_17 was now in open beta.

There are three different things that must be tested, The client (updated rarely), each FahCore (also updated rarely, but more often than the client), and each Project (and new projects can appear at any time). Normally, each one moves progressively toward full release, but occasionally problems are discovered AFTER a move and additional testing and possible revisions can be required so things can move back to a previous status.

FahCore_17 seems to be (almost) ready for release to Full FAH but I'm not sure about the Projects that are available for folding. Perhaps the issue is a difference between Implicit and explicit solvent models though I'm not sure how we know which a particular project is.
