R9 290 gives 3k PPD

Post by Axzevos »

Hello everyone. I got some problems with folding at home. I have just downloaded F@H, and at first it stood that I will get 70k points on one day. But after the progress was finished, it now stands I will get 3k PPD, and my other R9 290 will also get 3k.
Is this normal, and how do I fix this?

The most likely reason for this is that you got assigned a couple Core_16 WU's. Modern AMD drivers produce very poorly with Core_16. The last known good AMD driver for Core_16 was 12.8 which is too old for your video card. The best solution I have for you is to just let them finish. By then they should have finished the re-population of Core_17 WU's (See: Blog).

I'm sorry, but no one can guaranty that you will only get Core_17 WU's. An old Core_16 WU will undoubtedly happen again someday.

Sorry, but I don't have your HW to compare against to give you a normal PPD.

I agree that this re-population event sux but it is just a blip in the long-term. Matter of fact, the servers are again issuing Core_17 WU's.

Your system is very similar to mine (i7-4790k and 2x R9 270X) and I'm getting ~20k PPD on the CPU, and 85k PPD per GPU
