Re: Evga GeForce GTX 780 superclock

Post by Saleen219 »

ok i uninstalled the driver (332.21), downloaded 326.8 beta - wouldnt install. refreshed the device manager screen and windows installed its own driver (?), re-installed fah, it sees the gpu now, but it says paused:waiting for idle

Now - on my old rige i added client-type beta and extra-core-args -gpu-vender=nvidia so i added these as well, also - changing the cpu from -1 to 6 (8 core processor) just like i have on my other rigs, but unless the gpu is having dinner, its still paused:waiting for idle gpu:0:GK110 [GeForce GTX 780]. in the system info tab, it still shows gpus as 0. EDIT: restarted fah, shows gpus 1 but still paused:waiting for idle

wheni look at the log for slot 0 (the gpu), all it shows is:

Paused waiting for idle is the default power setting. GPU folding only occurs when either the screensaver is activated or the display powers off. The reason for that is that people often experience Lag when GPU folding and we do not wish to interfere with your use of the machine. You can change that setting simply by moving the power slider/setting to full and it will GPU fold all the time.

P.S.

Your client is configured for client-type = beta. We do not supply support in the general forums for anything beta. There is a separate forum dedicated to support just the beta team members. If you wish, you can join the Beta team assuming you are willing to accept all the duties and responsibilities contained within.

im working on my first gpu wu, and also with the cpu folding (not first wu), only getting at THIS time approx 44,000 ppd...sad. i hope this goes up by tomorrow lol!

I expected from what ive read at least 100k ppd from using this card...maybe if i can get that 326.8 driver to install? wait and see i guess, see if things pick up by this time tomorrow

Saleen219: what Project numbers and ppd values are your CPU and GPU running?

gpu: project 8018, 31481 ppd (at this time, 18.9% done the first wu) 8018 (909, 0, 248)
cpu: project 8580 (6% done this wu) 12691 ppd (8580 (1, 0, 183)

Im assuming that after a few wu's under its belt, the gpu might do better....

now this is using the windows driver for the card. I tried to install 326.8 beta but it didnt seem to like the gpu so wouldnt install.

EDIT: I just went to the nvidia site, it did a auto detect of my card/driver and apparently im actually running version 320.11

To get good PPD with a GTX 780, you need to be running Core_17 WU's that give QRB. As long as you are getting Core_15 (p8018) PPD is going to suck on a relative scale since Core_15 does not have QRB.

You also need a qualified passkey (at least 10 QRB WU's and maintain at least 80% successful return) but I'm assuming that you have one since it was listed in your configs.

passkey, yes, first thing i enter when i install fah after user name and team of course. So how can i get core_17 wu's? Or is that where the: extra-core-args -gpu-vender=nvidia came in?

Sorry, i dont really mess around with the program once i have things set up lol, and its been a while since ive had to do this.

EDIT: added the argument. 3hrs 22 mins left to finish this wu

Please note that you don't really have to use the extra-core-args at all since FahCore_17 has been released to Full F@H so it should automatically detect the appropriate GPU.

well, like i said - this is the first wu so i was going to give it a good 24 hrs to give it a chance. check it again tomorrow morning just to see what its doing then again when i get home from work. if my ppd are still dismal, then i guess I start trolling the threads to see if i can find an answer. that was the plan anyway.

extra-core-args -gpu-vendor=nvidia shouldn't be in your config. It is used to ID the AMD vs. Nvidia GPU's and that is now done entirely using the GPUs.txt file. Including that option can only cause problems.

I have no magical wand that will force Core_17 WU's to be assigned in preference to Core_15. The only tool at your disposal is client-type and that is a very limited tool. Client-type selects between more or less tested projects. Core_17 project tends to be newer so will tend to populate the less tested/higher risk for failure client-type's.

Apparently you have used several different passkeys. In fact two of them are bonus-qualified. If you need to know which they are, send the passkey(s) to a Moderator in a PM. (We can't see your passkey unless you furnish that information to us.)
