AMD "Gladius"

Post by roothorick »

This is the GPU end of the PS4 Pro SoC. Extremely similar to the RX 480 -- GCN4, same core configuration, just a bit lower clock.

Welcome to the F@H Forum roothorick,

Please note that in order for F@H to utilize the PS4 console, they would need collaboration and resources from Sony. The last time this happened was for PS3 but after a while, Sony decided to end support for F@H.

I would suggest that you contact Sony and ask for F@H to run on their platform. If enough customers ask, we may Play Stations folding again :)

I don't think that's true. Given, due to firmware requirements, availability is limited, but there are public unofficial tools to take over the console's firmware and replace the running kernel. Homebrew developers have used this foot in the door to port entire Linux distros. I'm folding on the CPU right now. The GPU is so similar to the Bonaire (for base model) or Polaris (for Pro) series that amdgpu was ported with its entire featureset intact, OpenCL and all. Even AMD's proprietary "AMDGPU Pro" extensions work.

I'm pretty certain that if the workservers treated 1002:9924 as a Polaris, I'd be up and running.

Any homebrewing or other means of violating Sony's terms of use is also violation of F@H terms of use. If Sony officially does not support the project with official client, it will not be supported here either.
Sony is running Linux based OS, and whole world knows AMD does not play nice with Linux, especially for folding. That would open up another billion questions on why my PS4 is not working, and another additional 5million questions on why my PS4 does not switch on anymore.

It is nice to see enthusiasts try to help, but this option unfortunately does not have happy ending, especially at the tail end of PS4 existence.
Now PS5...
If Sony signed up for this with PS5, that would be worth looking into, as PS5 hardware will be miles ahead of what is in PS4
