You are correct in that if you restart the client or unpause the slot you will get another bad assignment. That's why it says at the bottom of that post:

Leave the slot paused until PG responds that the problem is rectified. When they do then you can switch back to the Status tab, right-click on your GPU slot and select Fold.

And yes, it appears to be an assignment problem which only PG can fix. There's nothing we folders can do except pause the GPU slot, be patient and wait for them to respond.

I had it paused straight away, no worries

Project:7623 (655, 3, 1) Core_15 on ATI

Postby hnougher » Sat Dec 08, 2012 1:17 pm

This WU is attempting to use Core 15 on ATI which I didn't think was possible.
Even if it is possible it cannot download it.

The only course of action at the moment is to pause the GPU slot and wait for PG to respond to the assignment problems.

These instructions may be of some help.

Same problem here with all my ATI folding boxes. We'll just pause until the grad student/post-doc returns to work and lets us know that everything's back to normal. Meanwhile my GPUs will just have to idle the time away.

However....

When I was a grad student we worked nights and weekends - but that was 30 years ago and it's wasn't Comp-Sci - it was Chemistry. Guess things have changed - or maybe it's just California.

If something we did broke, there was the devil to pay and the next time we fixed it immediately even if it meant that we had to drop whatever else we were doing - including sleep. Guess that's changed too.

Even though it pains me maybe even more than anyone else when I think of the state ATI folding is in and current situation, but folding@home is not main job for some if not most of the devs at Stanford (maybe it is, but well, I don't know), and I doubt they are getting paid for running folding@home. they are being funded by university or someone else to have server rooms etc, but these are professors at university I suppose they have work hours and they have leisure time.
Who knows maybe they done it on purpose to sort out some issues or something else, after all ATI folding is in catastrophic state as it is(low output, PPD, low utilisation, no optimisation, no activity in beta forums, AMD going bonkers, ATI exclusion from equal benchmarking scheme and QRB), so all we can do is hope these issues are for the good, eh? I know I have been hoping for the good for like 4 years now :D

Thanks for your reports. We've been looking into this over the last few days. We finished an AS patch yesterday, gave it a day of testing, then rolled it out this morning to address this issue. We generally don't like to roll out new AS code this quickly, but this time it seemed important to address this issue quickly. We hope that as of 7:30am pacific time, this issue is now addressed, but we'll be keeping an eye out during the day to see.

PS Being the weekend, we have limited staff to handle this, but I and others are working this weekend to do our best to squash this ASAP.

Yes, yes,... but you must understand, that the weekend gives us even more time to check our folding rigs and stressssss over them....

Update: We've done some debugging and see the problem on our end. We're starting to see why it's happening and come up with a patch. This one won't be trivial to fix (i.e. will take a day if this wasn't on the weekend), but we're pushing on it.
